Liverpool, N.Y. – The University of the District of Columbia remained unbeaten with a 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Saturday afternoon at Elevate Fitness.
The Dolphins opened the match by earning the point in the doubles competition. At the second position, graduate student
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and sophomore
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) registered a 6-1 win over Joanna Skrzypczynska and Laura Marie. Simone Parn and Sofia Bellucco recorded a 6-1 win at the first spot over
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil). Freshman
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and senior
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) clinched the point with a 6-3 win at the third position over Mariona Franco and Claudia Bahamon.
The Firebirds won four of the six matches in the singles competition to secure the victory. Valentina Brienza tallied the point at the sixth spot over Fernandez, 6-3, 6-4. Skrzypczynska rallied at the fourth spot over Pepper, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Marie defeated Lilliegren at the fifth position, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. At the first position, Parn recorded a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8) win over Barona. Nunez collected Le Moyne's first singles point by defeating Bellucco, 6-4, 6-3, at the third spot. Oz was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) winner at the second position over Franco.
Le Moyne (12-4) returns to action on Friday, April 15 at Niagara University at 12:00 p.m.
