Easton, Mass. – Kayla Conway scored five goals to lead Stonehill College to a 17-14 upset victory over the second-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.
"I give a lot of credit to Stonehill for starting the game with great speed and intensity today," said head coach
Liz Beville. "Unfortunately, our in-game adjustments came a little too late and we suffered the consequences. We look forward to the opportunity to avenge this loss on Tuesday."
The loss snaps Le Moyne's 27-game win streak in NE10 games dating back to an 11-8 loss to Adelphi on April 25, 2018. It marked the team's first loss in an NE10 game to an opponent other than Adelphi since a 7-6 loss at Stonehill on April 5, 2014 (a span of 76 games) and it's also the first loss to an unranked opponent since the 2014 Stonehill game (a span of 55 games). Additionally, it's the first loss to an NE10 opponent other than Adelphi by more than one goal in the program's 12 years in the conference.
The Skyhawks, who scored the most goals against the Dolphins since Adelphi posted 18 in an 18-13 win in the NCAA semifinals on May 21, 2011, opened the game's scoring with the first two goals. Lilly Leach started the scoring at the 12:44 mark off a free-position shot and Lydia Rudden followed with her 10th goal of the season with 10:49 left.
Le Moyne, which lost when scoring at least 14 goals for the first time since a 15-14 decision at Sacred Heart on March 6, 2005 and for just the fifth time in the program's history, answered back just 44 seconds later as junior attacker
Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) scored her third goal of the game.
Leach scored another free-position goal only 40 seconds later, but graduate student midfielder
Sydney Meagher (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) tallied her ninth goal of the year 62 seconds later off a dish from senior midfielder
Adrianna Nojaim (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee).
Stonehill netted the next three goals for its first four-goal lead of the game. Emma Sullivan started the run with her 17th goal of the season with 7:13 left after taking a pass from Kendall Fressle. Caroline Davey posted her third goal of the year 24 seconds later after collecting a feed from Molly Mae Hughes. Conway netted her first goal of the day and 14th of the season with 4:29 to go off a dish in an extra-player situation from Hughes.

Conway scored her third goal of the quarter at the 6:25 mark after receiving a pass from Sullivan. Rudden followed with a tally with 4:08 left off a dish from Hughes in a two player-up situation. With the Skyhawks still up one player, Sullivan registered her 18th goal of the year with 2:54 remaining off a feed from Rudden.
