FIFTH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE UPENDED BY 21ST-RANKED NEW HAVEN, 14-13

Syracuse, N.Y. – Reagan Bailey scored her career-high sixth goal of the game with 1:11 remaining as the 21st-ranked University of New Haven upset the fifth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team, 14-13, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

"Hats off to New Haven for playing a whole 60 minutes today," said head coach Liz Beville. "Unfortunately, we did not do the same. We will go back to the drawing board tonight and look to play a more passionate and complete game on Saturday against our next NE10 opponent."

The loss is the first at Ted Grant Field in the regular season since the final game of the 2015 season, snapping a 41-game winning streak. The loss marks just the fourth at home in the regular season in Le Moyne's 12 years at the Division II level, dropping the Dolphins to 79-4 in the span. Two of the four losses have come to the Chargers (also in 2014), while the other two are against Adelphi (2011 and 2015). Including postseason contests, the Dolphins are now 95-10 at Ted Grant Field since it opened for the 2011 season.

The Dolphins scored the first two goals and held a 4-1 lead after one quarter of play. Junior attacker Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) started the scoring at the 11:08 mark with her ninth goal of the season. Graduate student attacker Erin McMullen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) doubled the lead with 6:29 remaining with her 21st goal of the campaign.

Bailey netted her first goal of the day with 2:20 left in the opening quarter on a free-position shot.

Addonizio followed just 41 seconds later with another unassisted tally. McMullen pushed the margin to three with 22 seconds remaining in the period off a pass from senior midfielder Adrianna Nojaim (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). With the goal, McMullen passed Amanda Keegan '07 for fourth on the program's career goals list with her 176th.

New Haven opened the second quarter with the first two goals. Bailey scored the first goal at the 12:39 mark and Annie Acquavita followed with a free-position goal with 11:44 remaining in the quarter.

Senior attacker Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) answered back just 33 seconds later off a pass from Addonizio.

Marina Skelly countered another 33 seconds later with her 23rd tally of the season

Sophomore midfielder Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) pushed Le Moyne's lead back to two with her second goal of the year with 9:06 left.

Acquavita kept the see-saw going at the 7:38 mark with her 18th goal of the season.

Le Moyne tallied the final two goals of the half to take an 8-5 lead into the intermission. Meneilly registered her 27th goal of the year at the 6:54 mark after taking a pass from Addonizio. Nojaim then scored with 5:06 left to complete the scoring in the half.

New Haven scored three times in the opening 2:21 of the third quarter and four times over the initial seven minutes to take the lead. In a two player-up situation carried over from the second quarter, Cypress Levitt netted her ninth goal of the season at the 14:07 mark off a dish from Julia Astram. Skelly followed 50 seconds later after taking a pass from Bailey. Astram converted a free-position shot another 38 seconds later to even the score at eight. Following four and one-half minutes of scoreless play, Bailey put the Chargers in front with 8:02 to go in the period.

The Dolphins answered back with three consecutive goals over the final 4:38 of the quarter. Redshirt junior midfielder Katelyn Karleski (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) tied the score at nine by finishing off a feed from sophomore attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) with 4:38 left. Freshman attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) put the Dolphins back in front 50 seconds later with her fifth goal of the year. Meneilly gave the Dolphins a two-goal advantage with 1:09 remaining after taking a feed from Nojaim.

The teams traded goals over the opening eight and one-half minutes of the fourth quarter. Bailey netted her 27th goal of the season at the 12:41 mark to pull the Chargers within one. Meneilly pushed the margin to two again with her 29th goal of the year after collecting a feed from graduate student midfielder Sydney Meagher (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) with 8:59 left in the game. Bailey followed with a free-position goal just 48 seconds later. Hutchings completed Le Moyne's scoring with 6:39 left to put the Dolphins up by two for the final time.

New Haven scored the game's final three goals to claim the victory. Acquavita started the run at the 5:20 mark with her 19th goal of the season. Levitt then evened the score at 13 with a free-position goal with 3:45 to play. After the Dolphins turned the ball over on a possession-clock violation with 2:02 left, the Chargers cleared the ball. Bailey then drove from the top of the box to net her sixth goal of the game and 29th of the season with 1:11 remaining.

The Dolphins won the ensuing draw control and called timeout with 55 seconds remaining. After moving the ball around the offensive end, an errant pass was thrown in front of the net with 19 seconds left and New Haven scooped up the loose ball and ran the time out.

Third-year sophomore goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) made six saves, including four in the second quarter, between the pipes in her third loss of the season. Gabby Buscemi registered 12 saves, including nine in the first half, to earn the victory.

Le Moyne (5-3, 2-2 NE10), which has three regular season losses for the first time since the 2014 season, returns to action on Saturday at Saint Michael's College at 12:00 p.m.
