38TH-RANKED MEN’S TENNIS CLINCHES SECOND STRAIGHT NE10 REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH 6-1 WIN OVER 52ND-RANKED SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Syracuse, N.Y. – The 38th-ranked Le Moyne College men's tennis team clinched its second straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship with a 6-1 victory over 52nd-ranked Southern New Hampshire University in the regular season finale for both teams on Friday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.

"It was a bittersweet feeling to win a conference title when your rival is down a few players," said head coach Jeff Lonczak '03. "Despite that, I think SNHU played very inspired tennis. It's been my honor and privilege to coach this bunch to 19 straight wins and a second regular season conference title in a row. We're going to take this weekend to celebrate and reflect on that accomplishment. On Monday, it'll be shifting our focus to the playoff season."

The Dolphins close out their NE10 slate with a 7-0 record to finish undefeated in league play for the second consecutive year, while extending their NE10 win streak to 17 straight matches dating back to the 2018-19 season.

Le Moyne, which has been ranked first in the first two NCAA East Region rankings, captured the point in the doubles competition for the 18th consecutive match. Fifth years Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and James Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) won by forfeit at the third position as the Penmen were unable to fill the position. Graduate student Manuel Righi (Bologna, Italy/IPC Manfredi - ITC Tanari/Concordia (N.Y.)/Universita di Bologna) and freshman Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) clinched the point with a 6-1 victory at the second spot over Emmanuel Vacalares and Boris Stastny. Thomas Guy and Fernando Torres defeated graduate student Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) at the first position, 6-4.

The Dolphins pushed their lead to 3-0 at the start of the singles competition as the Penmen were unable to fill the fifth and sixth singles positions. Righi clinched the match for the Dolphins – and moved to 15-0 on the year – with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the second spot over Vacalares. Hatton moved to 14-2 on the season with back-to-back 6-3 wins at the fourth position over Stastny. Torres earned a point for the Penmen with consecutive 7-5 scores at the third spot over Jared Howard. Jarry closed out the victory by rallying for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 win at the first position over Guy.

Le Moyne (19-1, 7-0 NE10) will open Northeast-10 Championships play by hosting a semifinal match on Thursday at Skytop. The time of the match will be released when determined.
