#25 ADELPHI EARNS A PAIR OF 3-1 WINS OVER SOFTBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team lost two close games against #25 Adelphi during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at the Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

Adelphi scored two runs during the top of the 2nd inning of game one and went on to earn a 3-1 victory, then the Panthers scored a run during the 1st, 3rd and 4th frames of game two and once again went on to take a 3-1 conference victory over the Dolphins.

Both Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) and Lindsey Dobbs (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie) threw the ball well today against a deep Adelphi lineup, but the Panthers' pitching duo of Lindsey Hibbs and Claire Fon were in tremendous form on Friday, as they have been the whole season. Hibbs and Fon each earned a win and a save during the doubleheader to improve their season win totals to 18 and 19, respectively.

Fon and Bennett dueled to start game one. Bennett allowed just five hits and one earned run in 5.1 innings of work, while Fon allowed just five hits and one run in 6.1 innings.

An Amanda Owens two-RBI double that flew just beyond the reach of Le Moyne center fielder Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin/Pace) and into the right-center field gap during the top of the 2nd inning put the Panthers up 2-0 in game one.

In the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings, there was only one base runner total for both sides, and neither team put a runner in scoring position, then the Panthers added a run during the top of the 6th on an Alexa Sacripante RBI double to make it 3-0.

Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) hit a ground ball to second base and beat the throw to first base for a leadoff single in the bottom of the 7th, and Jillian Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) came in to pinch run for Le Moyne's catcher.

Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) came to the plate next and ripped a hard ground ball through the right side of the infield to put runners on first and second with zero outs.

Victoria Catalano (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) hit a ground ball to the right side of the infield which moved Dunn over to third.

Elaina Kassap (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) dug in next and hit a hard chopper in the hole between the shortstop and third base. The Adelphi shortstop, Jaden Farhat, dove and did well to get a glove on it and keep the ball in the infield, but there was no throw to be made, giving Kassap an RBI single after Dunn crossed the plate to make it 3-1.

Adelphi Head Coach Carla Campagna brought in Hibbs to get the final two outs close the game. Hibbs, who leads the NE10 in strikeouts this season, recorded two Ks to end the game and earn the save.

Hibbs started game two in the circle for the Panthers, and Bennett got the ball again for Le Moyne.

Faith Camilleri hit an RBI single through the left side of the infield in the top of the first inning to give Adelphi an early 1-0 lead during the second half of the doubleheader.

Kendall Win hit a one-out double down the left field line in the top of the 2nd, but Kassap caught a line drive for out number two, then Dominique Russo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) made a great catch deep in foul territory in left field for the final out of the inning.

Camilleri recorded another RBI on another base hit through the left side in the top of the 3rd inning to double Adelphi's lead. The Panthers got their third and final run of the game in the top of the 4th to take a 3-0 lead. Dobbs delivered scoreless frames in the 5th, 6th and 7th.

Dybacz got on base with one out in the bottom of the 4th, then with two-outs Kassap ripped a ground ball through the left side of the infield to put runners on first and second.

Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), who made a great diving catch at third base during game one, dug in next and hit a line drive to center field but Adelphi's Sophia Cicchetti sprinted in and made a diving catch of her own to rob Rinaldi of an RBI.

Barrett came up with a one out base hit for the 'Phins in the bottom of the 6th to give them their first base runner of the inning, and Taylor Cox (Neversink, N.Y./Tri-Valley Secondary School) came in to pinch run. Dybacz singled down the left field line, then Catalano was hit by a pitch to load the bases, which brought Kassap to the plate.

Down 3-0 with one ball and no strikes in the count and the bases loaded, Kassap swung on a pitch and sent it high and far towards the opposite field. The ball flew beyond the fence, but to the right of the foul pole. With one ball and one strike, Kassap hit a ground ball to the shortstop, which drove in Cox to trim the deficit to 3-1.

Le Moyne was unable to put a runner in scoring position during the bottom of the 7th, and the 'Phins fell to the Adelphi by a score of 3-1 for the second time on Friday.

The Dolphins will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday before a conference doubleheader against Pace University. Cassidy Barrett, Maddy Sehnert, Taylor Cox and Victoria Catalano will be recognized before the game as senior student-athletes who have made tremendous contributions to their program and the Le Moyne College Athletics Community as a whole.

First pitch for game one of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and the Senior Day ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m.
