West Chester, Pa. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team fell short in its season-opening match against Millersville with a 3-1 loss on Friday afternoon at West Chester University's Hollinger Fieldhouse on the first day of their Ram Fest Tournament. The Dolphins took the win in the second match of the day against Goldey-Beacom, 3-0.
The Dolphins started off their season to a loss against Millersville on Friday August 26th. The Dolphins had a rough start getting into the rhythm of things, losing the first set, 25-14, and the second set, 25-19. They then responded with a 25-19 victory in the third set, but ended up falling short in the fourth and final set of the match with a 25-22 score.
Senior outside hitter
Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) led the team with 12 kills. Senior setter
Margaret King (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) directed the offense with 16 assists. Redshirt sophomore defensive specialist
Isabella Leslie (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) posted 13 digs and both sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist
Emily La Ruffa (Rock Hill, N.Y./Monticello) and freshman setter
Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y./Frontier) tied with 11 digs each.
Rose Vail led the Marauders with 13 Kills. Emma Ludwig guided the offense with 35 assists and tied with teammate Rebecca Dalstad with 15 digs.
In the second match of the day against Goldey-Beacom, the Dolphins made themselves known winning the first set 25-20. Also taking the second set 25-18. The Dolphins finalized this win with a 25-16 score in the third set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Rose Talty (Clifton Park N.Y./Shenendehowa) stopped a 6-point run from the Lightning with a kill to bring the score to 12-11 in the first set which ultimately set the tone for the Dolphins this match. Kennedy and La Ruffa took control of the offense with eight kills each. Gerken posted 15 assists and 10 digs this match, while Leslie had 17 digs.
Autumn Spendlove led the Lightening in assists with 15 and Claudia Camporro had 10 digs this game.
Le Moyne (1-1) plays Saturday at the Ram Fest Tournament against West Chester University (10:00 AM) and Georgian Court University (12:00 PM). Their next match following this tournament is Tuesday September 6
th at 5:00pm against D'Youville on Ted Grant Court.
