Box Score Manchester, N.H. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team fell on the road by a score of 3-1 to the Saint Anselm College Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks scored twice within the first ten minutes and the Dolphins were unable to dig themselves out of the early deficit.
Hildur Unnarsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) scored her third goal of the season after the 'Phins earned a penalty kick in the 78
th minute.
Two minutes and 15 seconds into the game, Saint Anselm's Josie Pecor received a pass at the top of Le Moyne's penalty area then sent a pass to Tara McCleary who made a run towards goal.
McCleary received the pass and placed her shot into the bottom right corner of the net to put the Hawks up 1-0.
Saint Anselm doubled their lead in the 6
th minute when Kathryn White took a free kick from the right wing and found Addie Birkett open at the far post. Birkett was standing within the six-yard box when she placed her header across the face of goal and into the left side of the net, giving Le Moyne goalkeeper
Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) no chance to stop the shot.
Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminster Mass./St. Bernard's) got to the ball in the left side of the Saint Anselm penalty area with 29:20 left in the first half and was able to get a shot off, but the ball bounced wide of the left post.
With 3:20 left in the first half the Dolphins were awarded a throw in from the left sideline within their attacking third. Left back
Lara Lobe (Trebnje, Slovenia/Gymnasium Novo mesto) threw the ball to
Hermine Hognerud (Oslo, Norway/Eikeli Videregående Skole) who moved towards the sideline with a defender on her back.
Hognerud received the ball and turned to her left shoulder to get past her defender then took a shot with her right foot that was on target but scooped up by Saint Anselm goalkeeper Emma Hudson.
Moreau made four saves during the first half for the 'Phins, but the Hawks held a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.
In the 49
th minute
Marisa Lisikatos (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) kicked the ball ahead towards the Hawks' penalty area.
Avery Maxam (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) sprinted after the ball and was able to get to it first after it bounced near the top of the 18-yard box. Maxam corralled the ball in the right side of the penalty area, faked a volley to evade a defender then hit an off-balanced shot with her right foot that rolled into the arms of Hudson.
Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) put a shot on goal in the 62
nd minute but once again Hudson came up with the save.
The Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 in the 74
th minute when Faith Lee scored off an assist from Erin Rutherford.
In the 78
th minute the Dolphins were awarded a penalty kick, and Unnarsdóttir took the shot from the spot. Saint Anselm substitute goalkeeper Kate Macaluso made the save on the initial penalty attempt, but Unnarsdóttir got the rebound opportunity and put the ball into the bottom right side of the net to get the 'Phins on the scoreboard.
The Le Moyne College women's soccer team (2-3-1, 0-3 NE10) will return to action on Wednesday, September 21 when they head to Albany to battle the College of Saint Rose.
