Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team came back after a long and hard fight to win against D'Youville University in five sets of tonight's home opener, 3-2. The D'Youville Saints took the first two sets but the Dolphins came back winning the last three sets to take the win.
"We had an incredible five-set win today, our first in over two seasons," said head coach
Bethany Fabian '13, M '17. "After a lack luster start, we were able keep our heads up and stay composed. The team really pulled together, trusted each other, and got the job done."
The Dolphins opened tonight's match losing the first set 25-12 and also the second set, 25-20. Coming off those two sets, the Dolphins had a fire in them and came back, winning the third set, 25-19, fourth set, 25-22, and the final set, 15-12, to finish the match.
Sophomore outside hitter
Rose Talty (Clifton Park N.Y./Shenendehowa) registered a career-high 15 kills, followed by senior outside hitter
Madeline Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) coming in with 11 kills and redshirt sophomore
Marie Rhodes (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) with 10 kills. Freshman setter
Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y./Frontier) registered 29 assists and senior setter
Margaret King (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) tallied 19. Redshirt sophomore defensive specialist
Isabella Leslie (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) recorded a career high-tying 22 digs followed by Talty with a career-best 19 to complete her first career double-double and sophomore
Ella Katz (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) with 16.
Jaycee Karelus led the Saints with 18 kills followed by Eve Musielak with 17 kills and 15 digs. Emma Wlostowski had 47 assists and 20 digs. Madison Bradshaw had 15 digs this game.
The Dolphins (2-3) will play their next match in New Haven, Connecticut against Post University this Friday September 9
th at 5:00pm.
