Syracuse, N.Y. – During a Northeast Conference battle between the Le Moyne women's soccer team and Wagner College on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field, the visiting Seahawks registered the go-ahead goal in the 84
th minute to claim a 1-0 win on the road and three points in the NEC Standings.
Wagner senior defender Kayla Barbosa put away the winning goal on a rebound attempt following a shot from graduate forward Madison Carr. The goal was Barbosa's second of the year.
Wagner outshot the Dolphins by a tally of 10-6, but both sides recorded five shots during the final 45 minutes.
In the 18
th minute, a give-and-go between Le Moyne freshman defender/midfielder
Liz Ramsey (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) and junior forward
Sierra Edwards (Greece, N.Y./Hilton/Monroe) sent Ramsey on a run into the left side of the Wagner penalty area, but her right-footed shot went over the crossbar and out of bounds for a goal kick.
Less than one minute into the second half, junior defender/midfielder
Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) got past her defender on the left wing, dribbled into the box and ripped a shot that was blocked by a Wagner defender.
With just over two minutes remaining, junior forward
Autumn Edwards (Greece, N.Y./Hilton/Monroe) dribbled up the right wing with a defender on her hip, then crossed the ball to the edge of the six-yard box where sophomore midfielder
Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminster, Mass./St. Bernard's) knocked the ball out of the air towards the goal line before the goal keeper could get to it, but it rolled to the right of the post and out of bounds for a goal kick.

Lara Lobe (Trebnje, Slovenia/Gymnasium Novo mesto) put a shot on goal that was saved by Sam Hughes.

The Dolphins will return to action on Thursday with a home conference match against Merrimack at 3:00 p.m. at Ted Grant Field.
Quotes from Le Moyne head coach
Jaro Zawislan:
"A tough result to take. We started off the game a little bit slow. We all could see that we were the team on more tied legs, having the midweek game at Delaware State and Wagner not playing a midweek conference game this week. It is not an excuse or explanation, but going to LIU on the week, the quick turnaround and hitting the road to Delaware State, then another quick turnaround and playing a quality team like Wagner, having those two tough trips behind us [had an effect]. The beginning of the game is definitely not what we strive for. We were a step behind, they looked like a fresher team, however through the quality and the quantity of the players that we could rotate today, we felt that by the latter part of the half, especially during the last 10 minutes of the first half, we were able to neutralize that fatigue level and we started to generate a little bit of momentum."
"Going into halftime with a 0-0 score, considering we were a step behind during the first part of the first half, we felt we shortened the game to 45 minutes and were in a good position to go after a result in the second half. We came out very strong in the second half, felt that we generated a lot of momentum. Possession wise, we were happy to have some sequences in the attacking third of the field. The game became a little bit more balanced in the middle of the second half, and then at the end of the game, many people could think it looks like both teams are going to end up with a tie, however we felt like it's going to come down to one goal and one play, because neither team was going to go for a tie. Both teams were going after three points, both teams were pressing after a win. It definitely made for an entertaining back-and-forth game for the fans here."
"Unfortunately, Wagner scored the goal and we didn't. It came down to one goal. Credit to our players for how they responded from the tough week of conference play. They've done a very good job by committee, by the group of players in rotation to get to the point where we balanced the game a little bit more. With the chances that we created throughout the game, and with the very positive response after we gave up the late goal, we could not ask for more from the players. In the last part of the game, down 1-0 late in the game, we still generated two, maybe three quality chances, including an opportunity in the goalkeeper's area and the free kick on the foul drawn in a very dangerous spot."
"Our players have done everything but score the goal. So, we will continue to work on the quality in the final third of the field. We'll continue to improve. There are so many positives that can be taken out of the game. The result is not what we strive for, however the team continues to make progress."
