Niagara University, N.Y. – Jaida Borg rallied at the third singles spot to give Niagara University a 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Niagara Tennis Courts.

The Purple Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming two of the three doubles matches. At the first position, Coral Rodriguez and Elena Mayet posted a 6-3 win over sophomore Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and graduate student Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil). Enrica Favaron and Larisa Kotok clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at the second position over freshmen Lilia Raiss and Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College). Junior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and senior Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) were victorious at the third spot, 6-1, over Mercedes Velasco and Borg.

Le Moyne evened the match at one apiece as Barona claimed the point at the fourth singles spot due to opponent retirement. The Purple Eagles regained the lead as Favaron was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over sophomore Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) at the sixth position. Mayet pushed the lead to 3-1 with a 7-6, 6-1 victory at the first spot over Simeonova. Raiss was a 7-6, 6-3 victor at the second position over Rodriguez and sophomore Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) tallied a 7-6, 6-4 win at the fifth spot over Kotok to even the match at three apiece. Borg dropped the first set to Fernando, 7-5, but responded with a 7-6 win in the second set and a 6-3 victory in the third set to clinch the match for her team.

Le Moyne (1-1) is back in action on Friday for the start of the ITA Northeast Regional, which will be hosted by Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
