Syracuse, N.Y. – Women's basketball graduate guard
Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) has been named the Le Moyne Athlete of the Week, presented by CADimensions, Inc., for her performance during the Dolphins' 63-61 overtime victory at UMass Lowell on Saturday.
Lusher shot 7-9 from the field, including 2-2 from three-point land, to finish the contest with a game-high 16 points against the River Hawks.
The Dolphins trailed UMass Lowell by a score of 42-34 after three quarters, then Lusher scored 10 of her points during the fourth quarter as Le Moyne outscored the River Hawks 21-13 in the final 10 minutes of regulation to send the contest to overtime.
Lusher's three pointer from the left corner with 3:59 left in the fourth gave the Dolphins their first lead since they were up 4-3 in the first period, then she knocked down an elbow jumper with 54 seconds remaining in regulation to make it 52-53 in favor of the River Hawks.
With 15 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Lusher accepted a pass from
Kaia Goode (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and knocked down a clutch three pointer to put Le Moyne in front, 55-53.
With under 40 seconds remaining in the overtime period, Lusher drove to the basket and converted a shot in the lane to give Le Moyne a 59-58 advantage.
UMass Lowell tied the game at 61-61 with 12 seconds left in overtime, then Goode brought the ball up the court and found
Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) in the paint for a game-winning layup to lift the Dolphins to their first victory of the program's Division I era.
The Le Moyne women's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Boston University.
