Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior guard
Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) scored 17 first-half points to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 92-54 victory over Fredonia State on Wednesday night at Ted Grant Court.
Jones nailed a trio of three-pointers and made six free throws en route to his career-high point total, while adding a team-high seven rebounds and three assists. Graduate student forward
Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) registered a game-high 19 points, including 14 in the first half, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing out three assists and blocking two shots. He finished 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range and went 6-of-6 from the foul line. Freshman guard
AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) tallied a career-best 13 points, eight of which came in the first half, while pulling down five rebounds. Redshirt freshman guard
Kaelin Thomas (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic) tallied a career-best 10 points in a career-high 13 minutes and posted career-bests of two rebounds and two assists.
David Jordan led the Blue Devils with 16 points, including nine in the first half. Keenan Roberts Jr. tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
Following two free throws by Fredonia to get within 7-4 at the 17:44 mark, the Dolphins rattled off 32 of the next 38 points to take their largest lead of the half at 39-10 with 8:46 left. Jones Jr. led the run with nine points, including six from the charity stripe, sophomore guard
Trent Mosquera (Brookline, Mass./Belmont Hill School) drained a pair of three-pointers around a dunk, Sutherland and Dancler each made a pair of three-pointers and graduate student guard
Nate McClure (Houston, Texas/Concordia Lutheran/Texas State/State Fair C.C./IUPUI) ignited the outburst with a conventional three-point play.
The teams went back and forth over the final eight and one-half minutes as Le Moyne's lead bounced between 22 and 28 points and settled at 55-28 at the intermission.
McClure gave Le Moyne its first lead of 30 points with a three-pointer 39 seconds into the second half.
Following a basket by Roberts Jr. to make it 63-34 with 16:52 left, the Dolphins scored six straight points, including the final four from junior forward
Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State), for a 35-point lead with 13:21 to go.
After back-and-forth play over the next seven minutes, the Blue Devils scored seven of the next eight points to get within 28 for the final time.
Le Moyne closed the game with four three-pointers over the final two and one-half minutes to deliver its largest lead of the game (92-52) before Roberts Jr. scored for the final margin. Thomas started the streak with his second career three-pointer and then fed Owens for one from the top-of-the-key. Sophomore guard
C.J. Moore (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Francis) finished off Le Moyne's scoring with his first two career three-pointers.
