Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne Men's Basketball team heads on the road to face Army West Point on Tuesday night.

Army, which is led by first-year head coach Kevin Kuwik, is off to a rough start in 2023-24. The Black Knights are just 1-7 and averaging under 60 points per game. Their most notable opponent was Indiana, which beat Army, 72-64, in early November. The Black Knights' latest game was their first victory of the season. Army downed Maritime 74-39 on Friday.

Army had a much more successful 17-16 record last campaign. The Black Knights were 10-5 at home in 2022-23.

It's been a balanced scoring effort for the military academy. Freshman Josh Scovens leads the way with nearly ten points a game. Scovens is mostly steady, putting up 10+ points in five contests. He's also been an effective rebounder, ranking second on the team with 5.6 per matchup. The forward is averaging nine boards over his last two games.

Ryan Curry, another freshman, has been solid as well. The guard is averaging 9.6 points on over 37% from three. Curry scored a season-high 20 points in Army's close loss to Indiana. He also leads the team in assists. Curry had four assists during the Black Knights first win of the season against Maritime.

Forward Charlie Peterson is Army's most efficient rebounder. He leads the team with over six boards a game. Peterson posted 10 rebounds in the Black Knights' loss to Binghamton, which Le Moyne faces on Saturday. The senior averages just over six points as well.

Senior Jared Cross is another Black Knight who has made an impact. Cross is shooting over 42% from beyond the arc to start the year. He hit three three-pointers in Army's 57-44 loss to Stonehill, another future Le Moyne opponent. Cross also has an assist in all but one of his appearances this campaign.

Army is being outscored by over six points a game through its first eight contests. Opponents are shooting over 45% from the field and averaging more than 12 free throws per game against the Black Knights.

Le Moyne dominated in its most recent contest. The Dolphins crushed Fredonia State 92-54 last Wednesday. It was Le Moyne's second time eclipsing 90 points this season.

Graduate student
Luke Sutherland led the Dolphins in scoring against Fredonia. Playing just 19 minutes, Sutherland posted 19 points and hit three three-pointers. The forward increased his season average to 13.4 points, a team high. Sutherland added five rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the big win.

Guard
Darrick Jones Jr. impressed as well. Jones Jr. had a season-high 17 points and knocked down three from beyond the arc. His seven rebounds against Fredonia State were also a season-best. The senior also had three assists and a steal.

AJ Dancler put up career-best numbers. Dancler had 13 points and hit two threes. The guard also had five rebounds and two steals.

Mike DePersia showed up on the defensive end, tallying four steals.
Trent Mosquera and
Ocypher Owens made an impact too. Both players blocked three shots respectively.

Le Moyne's matchup with Army is its first during a two-game road trip. The Dolphins face Binghamton on Saturday before returning home to play Dartmouth on December 16.
