Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne men's basketball team heads elsewhere in New York for the "Battle for the Interstate" rivalry against Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.

Binghamton, who participates in the America East Conference, is off to a steady start in 2023-24. After starting the season with back-to-back defeats, the Bearcats rattled off three straight wins against Keystone College, Loyola University Maryland, and Marist College. Since then, Binghamton has gone 2-2, including a victory over Army West Point, which beat Le Moyne on Tuesday. The Bearcats are undefeated at home to start the season.

Binghamton looks to build off a 13-18 record in 2022-23. Its last winning season came over a decade ago.

The Bearcats are led by junior Tymu Chenery. The guard averages nearly 14 points per game. He posted a season-high 23 points against Army in late November. Chenery has 10+ points in six of Binghamton's nine games this campaign. He also grabs 3.4 rebounds a game and leads the team with 15 total blocks.

Guard Symir Torrence, a native of Syracuse who spent the last two seasons with Syracuse University, has impressive distribution numbers. Torrence is averaging over six assists a game and ranks third on the team in points. He's shooting over 41% from three and 50% from the field. Torrence also leads Binghamton in rebounds and steals.

Senior Nehemiah Benson is another effective Bearcat. The forward puts up nearly nine points a game. He's coming off his best performance, dropping 17 points on over 50% from the field against Stonehill. Benson also had a season-high nine rebounds in the game.

Binghamton averages nearly 70 points a game in the young season. The Bearcats also outrebound opponents by nearly three boards per contest.

Le Moyne enters Saturday's contest after a 68-51 loss to Army. The defeat dropped the Dolphins to a 1-6 record on the road.

Despite the loss, graduate student Luke Sutherland had a strong night. He had 17 points, including three three-pointers, and four rebounds. Sutherland leads the team with 13.8 points per game. The performance was Sutherland's fifth straight contest in double figures.

Junior Ocypher Owens posted a solid night as well. The forward ended with 12 points on nearly 50% from the field. He also had eight rebounds, which led the team. It was his first time with 10+ points since mid-November.

Nate McClure and Isaiah Salter both showed out on the defensive end. Each tallied three steals, which led the Dolphins. They both had three assists in the loss. McClure also grabbed four rebounds.

The "Battle for the Interstate" rivalry series begins this season and is slated initially for four years. Le Moyne leads the all-time series 3-2, but the teams haven't faced off against each other since 2000.
