Cary, N.C. – The Le Moyne College baseball team dropped both games to Goldey-Beacom College on Friday during the team's season-opening doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
The Lightning scored a go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one to claim a 4-3 win over the Dolphins during the first half of the doubleheader, then Goldey-Beacom scored four runs in the top of the fifth in game two to earn a 5-1 non-conference win.
Junior right-hander
Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) started on the mound for the 'Phins in game one and tallied four strikeouts and four hits allowed in 4.2 innings pitched during his Le Moyne debut. Freshman right-hander
Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) entered the game in relief and allowed just one run and two hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Graduate second baseman
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)), graduate first baseman
Andrew Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell), fifth year shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), and sophomore right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) each recorded two hits during game one, while freshman third baseman
Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) drove in a team-best two runs during the setback on a double to left center in the top of the sixth.
Sophomore right-hander Alex Hinton held the Dolphins scoreless for the final 3.2 innings of game one to earn the win for Goldey-Beacom, and sophomore shortstop Braden Kolmansberger led the Lightning offensive effort with two hits and three RBIs.
In game two, Goldey-Beacom junior right-hander Tommy Federici struck out five batters and allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings pitched to earn the win for the Lightning, while junior left-hander Karl Schmidt threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.
Junior left-hander
Max Parker (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) threw the first 5.0 innings in game two, then sophomore left-hander
Jacob Crystal (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) did not allow a run or a hit and tallied four strikeouts in 2.0 innings in relief.
Junior left fielder
Jason Boule (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) went 2-3 at the plate during the game two defeat, while sophomore catcher
Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) scored the team's lone run.
The Dolphins will play a single nine-inning contest on Saturday at 2:00 against Mercy College.
