NEW HAVEN RALLIES FOR 62-57 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Tyrone Perry scored 24 points to lead the University of New Haven to a 62-57 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

The Dolphins, who have a bye on the final day of the league year on Tuesday, finish the regular season with an NE10 mark of 11-9 and will open NE10 Championships play at home on Friday the 24th at 7:00 p.m. The Dolphins are currently seventh in the NE10 standings and will finish as either the sixth or seventh seed depending on the result of the Franklin Pierce at Pace game on Tuesday. A Franklin Pierce win would keep the Dolphins the seventh seed, while a Pace victory would give the Dolphins the sixth seed as Le Moyne would win the tiebreaker in a three-way tie with the Setters and Ravens. If the Dolphins are the sixth seed, they will host the 11th seed, while they would host the 10th seed if they are the seventh. The full NE10 Championship bracket will be released by the conference on Tuesday night following the completion of league play.

Senior forward Xavier Wilson (Spring Valley, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac/The Hotchkiss School/Central Connecticut State) led the Dolphins offensively with 14 points, 10 of which came in the first half. Junior guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Perry recorded 13 points in the first half and had 11 in the second half, while adding four rebounds. Davontrey Thomas tallied 13 of his 15 points in the second half. Quashawn Lane was the third Charger in double digits with 11 points.

After New Haven scored seven of the first nine points over the opening 2:43, Le Moyne answered with eight of the next 11 to knot the score at 10 with 14:00 to go. First-year graduate student guard Isaiah Salter (Charlotte, N.C./Central Cabarrus/American International/Adelphi) and Wilson drained three-pointers around a lay-up by Jones Jr.

Le Moyne later used a 6-0 spurt to take an 18-14 lead with 8:53 to go. All six points came from redshirt sophomore guard Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School), who buried a three-pointer, made a free throw and scored in the paint over three possessions.

New Haven answered with five straight points and seven of the next 10 to even the score at 21 with 6:09 remaining.

Le Moyne took its largest lead of the half with the next five points. Fourth-year junior forward Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) made a jumper and then fourth-year junior guard Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) hit a pull-up jumper from the right wing with 4:42 to go.

Perry had four points and Wilson had three over the final 2:18 as Le Moyne took a 29-25 lead into halftime.

Following a 4-0 spurt by the Chargers to get within 31-29 with 18:08 left, the Dolphins scored seven in a row to force a New Haven timeout. Constant had a tip-in, Wilson made a jumper and then Salter buried a three-pointer for a 38-29 lead with 16:32 remaining.

New Haven countered with 10 consecutive points to take the lead. Majur Majak had a put-back, Olawoye recorded a conventional three-point play, Perry had a conventional three-point play and then Thomas made a lay-up for a 39-38 lead with 13:42 left.

Le Moyne answered with 11 straight points to take a double-digit lead. Sophomore guard Zy'Ever Wingfield (Richmond, Va./Henrico/Fork Union Military Academy) drained a three-pointer from the left wing, Constant made a foul shot, first-year graduate student guard Mike DePersia () connected on a three-pointer and then Jones Jr. and Wingfield made lay-ups to force a New Haven timeout with the Dolphins leading 49-39 with 8:58 to play.

New Haven responded with a 15-3 run to take the lead. Majak made two free throws, Perry and Lane hit fast-break jumpers, Thomas answered a Le Moyne three-pointer with a lay-up, Perry made a jumper and then Thomas drilled a three-pointer to tie the score at 52. After a Le Moyne timeout, Perry made a jumper to put the Chargers in front.

Salter nailed a three-pointer from the right wing to put the Dolphins back in front, but Lane answered with a jumper with 2:00 left. Wilson put the Dolphins in front again with two free throws with 1:29 remaining. Thomas gave New Haven the lead for good with a jumper with 1:05 to play.
