MEN’S TENNIS RUNS WIN STREAK TO 23 WITH 6-1 WIN OVER HOBART

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team registered its 23rd consecutive victory, 6-1, over Hobart College on Friday evening at Elevate Fitness.

The Dolphins won the point in the doubles competition for the fourth straight match to open the season. Senior Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and graduate student Fabian Sjokvist (Helsingborg, Sweden/Campeon Frigymnasium/Lincoln Memorial) defeated Harry Lyu and Troy Steiner at the second position, 6-2. Senior Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense) and graduate student Alberto Diaz (Tenerife, Spain/Benito Pérez Armas/Nebraska-Kearney/Midwestern State) were 7-6 (7-4) winners at the third position over Winter Fagerberg and Hyat Oyer 7-6 (7-4). Sean Pesin and Jett Wright edged graduate student Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and senior Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) at the first position, 7-6 (10-8).

Le Moyne moved to 21-3 in singles action by winning five of the six matches in the singles competition. Sophomore Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) registered his second straight win at the top position, 6-0, 6-3, over Pesin. Piekarek moved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Lyu at the second spot. Graduate student Manuel Righi (Bologna, Italy/IPC Manfredi - ITC Tanari/Concordia (N.Y.)/Universita di Bologna) also is 4-0 after a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the third position over Fagerberg. Miller was a 6-4, 6-3 victor at the fifth spot over Nick Fischer. Senior Felipe Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/Blue Valley School/Saint Louis) closed out the match with an 8-3 win over Jacob Linares at the sixth position. Oyer earned the point for the Statesmen with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at the fourth spot over Beires.
 
Le Moyne (4-0) is back in action on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the University at Buffalo.
