SOFTBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER AT NFCA LEADOFF CLASSIC

Columbus, Ga. – The Le Moyne College softball team lost both games of their doubleheader on Friday at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, falling 10-6 to West Chester University before suffering a 15-3 setback against Embry-Riddle University.

Sophomore right-hander Julia Panarella (Southington, Conn./Southington) started game one in the circle for the 'Phins and pitched 2.1 innings, then freshman righty Rose Nicastro (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) made her Le Moyne debut in relief, pitching the final 3.2 innings of the contest.

West Chester junior right-handed pitcher Mary Picozzi pitched the first 2.0 innings for the Golden Rams, then freshman right-hander Samantha Klug pitched the final 5.0 innings to earn the win.

Redshirt-sophomore third baseman Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) and sophomore second baseman Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) both recorded two RBIs during game one, while sophomore left fielder Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) and graduate catcher Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) both provided a team-best two hits against the Golden Rams.

Olivia Mock and Danielle Ciliberto both contributed two RBIs to the West Chester cause.

Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single from Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park), then West Chester scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, then two more in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Dybacz ripped a leadoff solo home run in the top of the third, then Rinaldi drew an RBI walk later in the inning to trim Le Moyne's deficit in half, but West Chester added five more runs in the third to establish a 9-3 advantage.

Larobardiere launched a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to make it 9-5 in favor of the Golden Rams.

Klug held Le Moyne scoreless during the final two innings to secure the win for West Chester.

Redshirt-junior right-hander Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) started game two in the circle for Le Moyne and pitched 3.0 innings, then redshirt-sophomore right-hander Michaela Stockwell (Fort Plain, N.Y./Fort Plain) pitched one inning in relief.

Embry-Riddle scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to open up a 15-0 lead, and the game ended after the fifth inning.

Le Moyne scored three runs in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI single from Dybacz, followed by a Benderski RBI single to center field.

The Le Moyne softball team will play another doubleheader at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Saturday.

The Dolphins will take on Lincoln Memorial at 3:00 p.m. before a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Georgian Court.
