SOFTBALL RECORDS WIN OVER #18 LINCOLN MEMORIAL AT NFCA LEADOFF CLASSIC

Columbus, Ga. – The Le Moyne College softball team recorded a 4-3 win over #18 Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday before falling to Georgian Court University during their second game of the afternoon by a score of 12-4.

Redshirt-junior right-hander Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) earned her first win of the season on Saturday against Lincoln Memorial, a team with a 15-9 record so far in 2023.

Bennett pitched all seven innings against the Railsplitters, during which she allowed just five hits and zero earned runs to lead the Dolphins to victory.

Le Moyne first-year designated hitter Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) tallied all four of the team's RBIs against Lincoln Memorial. Benderski lifted a three-run home run over the center field fence in the bottom of the first inning, then the rookie ripped an RBI single in the sixth inning to extend Le Moyne's lead to 4-2.

Graduate catcher Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) went 2-3 at the plate with a run scored during Le Moyne's win on Saturday.

Lincoln Memorial trimmed their deficit to 4-3 in the top of the seventh with just one out, but Bennett got a fly ball to center field and a strikeout to end the game and secure the win for the 'Phins.

During game two of Le Moyne's doubleheader on Saturday, Georgian Court tallied four runs in the top of the first, then added three more runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead. The Lions tacked on three more runs in the third, and two in the fourth to establish a 12-0 advantage over the Dolphins.

A one-out triple by Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) followed by an RBI double from Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) in the bottom of the fourth gave Le Moyne their first run of the game.

The Dolphins scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but a line drive ended the inning and gave Georgian Court a 12-4 win after five frames.

The Le Moyne softball team will play their final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against #17 The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
