SOFTBALL LOSES 5-2 AGAINST #17 ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE

Columbus, Ga. – The Le Moyne College softball team lost their final game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Sunday, a 5-2 setback against #17 The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The Dolphins jumped out a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against the Chargers, putting themselves in position to potentially win their second game over a nationally ranked opponent in as many days (The 'Phins claimed a 4-3 win over #18 Lincoln Memorial on Saturday).

Sophomore left fielder Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) hit a one-out double in the bottom of the first inning, then graduate catcher Cassidy Barrett (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) drove her in with a base hit to center field.

The 'Phins doubled their lead in the bottom of the third after a double from redshirt-sophomore third baseman Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) drove in senior center fielder Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin/Pace) from second base.

Alabama Huntsville cut their deficit in half in the fourth inning, then scored four runs in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. UAH right-handed pitcher Grace O'Berry held Le Moyne scoreless during the final 4.1 innings to earn the win for the Chargers.

Redshirt-junior right-hander Laura Bennett (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) pitched all seven innings for Le Moyne and recorded eight strikeouts.

Larobardiere, Barrett, Boudreau, Dybacz, Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) each provided one hit during the defeat.

The Dolphins do not play again until they arrive in Florida for the Spring Games, which are set to begin on March 11.
