MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BENTLEY, 78-67, IN NE10 CHAMPIONSHIPS QUARTERFINALS

Waltham, Mass. – Zach Laput and Matt Leritz recorded double-doubles to lead third-seeded Bentley University to a 78-67 victory over the sixth-seeded Le Moyne College men's basketball team in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

With the loss, the Dolphins finish the season with a record of 15-15.

Fourth-year junior guard Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) led the Dolphins offensively with a career-best 15 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Freshman guard Trent Mosquera (Brookline, Mass./Belmont Hill School) came off the bench in the second half to score 13 points, grab four rebounds and post three steals. First-year graduate student guard Isaiah Salter (Charlotte, N.C./Central Cabarrus/American International/Adelphi) scored all 11 of his points in the second half.

Laput, the leading scorer in the conference and the odds-on favorite to be named the NE10 Player of the Year on Monday, scored 29 points (15 in the first half) and pulled down 11 rebounds (seven in the first half) for his double-double. Leritz turned in 16 points (12 in the first half) and 12 rebounds (seven in the first half), while adding four assists. Aaron Latham and Mason Webb each scored 13 points, while Latham had eight rebounds.

The Dolphins opened the game with the first four points and seven of the opening nine.

Following a free throw by first-year graduate student guard Mike DePersia (Cherry Hill, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial/IUPUI) to put the Dolphins up 10-7 with 15:22 remaining in the first half, the Falcons scored seven straight points and 11 of the next 13. Laput nailed a three-pointer, Webb had a three-pointer and free throw, Latham hit a jumper and then Leritz made a lay-up.

Le Moyne answered with eight of the next 10 points to knot the score at 20. Redshirt sophomore guard Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School) started the run with a lay-up, junior guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) drained a three-pointer and then Washington recorded a traditional three-point play with 6:05 remaining.

Bentley countered with an 8-2 run of its own to regain the six-point lead with 4:43 left. Laput hit a three-pointer, Latham followed with a jumper and then Laput had a conventional three-point play.

After the Dolphins got within three on a pair of occasions over the next minute, the Falcons rattled off 10 of the next 12 points for their first double-digit lead of the game. Laput had six of the points, while Brian Wright-Kinsey and Leritz each scored in the paint.

Washington, who scored Le Moyne's final 14 points of the half, hit a runner as time expired to get the Dolphins within 40-31 at halftime.

Le Moyne scored the first five points of the second half to cut its deficit to four, but Bentley followed with seven straight points. Leritz had a put-back lay-up, Webb buried a three-pointer and then Leritz made another lay-up with 15:31 remaining.

After the teams went back and forth over the next four minutes, Wright-Kinsey hit a three-pointer to give Bentley its first 13-point lead of the game with 10:09 left.

Following three-pointers from fourth-year junior forward Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) and Mosquera in a span of 32 seconds to get the Dolphins within 57-50 with 3:48 left, Bentley tallied 12 straight points to put the game away. Latham made four free throws around a lay-up by Laput and then buried a three-pointer, while Laput capped the streak with a traditional three-point play.

Salter connected on three-pointers on three straight possessions to get the Dolphins with 71-59 with 3:23 remaining.

Bentley's lead bounced between 11 and 15 points the remainder of the game.
