Syracuse, N.Y. – Njavan Stewart hit the go-ahead jumper and six of the last eight points to lead Assumption University to a 76-72 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at Ted Grant Court.
Sophomore guard
Zy'Ever Wingfield (Richmond, Va./Henrico/Fork Union Military Academy) led five Dolphins in double figures with 13 points, including eight in the first half. Senior forward

Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) and redshirt sophomore guard
Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School) each scored 11 points, while Wilson grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Fourth-year junior forward
Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) posted 10 points.
Stewart finished the contest with a game-high 22 points, including 14 in the second half, while pulling down nine rebounds and blocking two shots. Isiah Gaiter flirted with a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds (eight in the first half) and six assists (five in the first half). Cal Connelly tallied 10 of his 14 points in the opening three minutes of the game, while Cooper Creek finished with 10 points.
After the teams traded three-pointers to start the game, the Greyhounds rattled off nine straight points and 22 of the next 24 points to take a 20-point lead with 12:39 left. Connelly scored seven of the first nine and then four others combined for the next 13 points, led by a pair of three-pointers from Creek.
Le Moyne answered with 12 straight points to trim its deficit to single digits with 9:21 left. Constant and Wingfield each scored four points in the stretch.
Following four points from each team, the Greyhounds extended their lead back to 17 with nine straight points. Gaiter scored the first four, Connelly hit a jumper and then Stewart made it 38-21 with 3:46 remaining in the half.
Le Moyne responded with 10 straight points and 12 of the last 15 to get within 41-33 at halftime. Five Dolphins scored in the span, led by five points from first-year graduate student guard

After a lay-up by Gaiter to start the scoring in the second half, Sutherland drained a corner three-pointer and had a dunk to get the Dolphins within five at the 18:01 mark and force an Assumption timeout.
Stewart drilled back-to-back three-pointers out of the timeout to push Assumption's lead back to 11 with 17:06 remaining.
Following five points from the Dolphins and four from the Greyhounds to deliver a 55-45 Assumption lead with 13:46 left, Le Moyne ran off 16 of the next 21 points to take its first lead of the game. Fourth-year junior guard
Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) started the run with a three-pointer, Jones Jr. scored four straight, Wilson scored five points around a Gaiter jumper and then Constant had a pair of lay-ups around a Gaiter free throw to tie the score and then take the lead with 9:06 to play.
Creek had a dunk to give the lead back to the Greyhounds, but the Dolphins answered with seven of the next nine points for a 68-64 lead with 6:34 remaining. Wingfield drained a three-pointer and then Jones Jr. made two free throws. After a Stewart lay-up, Wilson had a dunk for the four-point advantage.
Assumption countered with eight straight points to take the lead back and a 12-4 run to close out the game. Kani Glover started the run with a jumper, Gaiter followed with a lay-up to tie the score and then Stewart put the Greyhounds up with back-to-back jumpers to force a Le Moyne timeout with 3:50 left.
Following an empty possession by each team, first-year graduate student guard
Nate McClure (Houston, Texas/Concordia Lutheran/Texas State/State Fair C.C./IUPUI) hit a jumper with 2:49 left to get the Dolphins within 72-70. After another empty possession by each team, Glover pushed the margin back to four with a jumper with 1:41 to go.
Constant got the Dolphins within 74-72 with 1:02 left, but that would mark Le Moyne's final points of the game as the Dolphins missed a potential go-ahead three-pointer with 19 seconds left and Stewart grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He went to the foul line for a 1-and-1 and converted both ends for a 76-72 lead with 17 seconds to go. Le Moyne committed a turnover on its next possession and missed a three-pointer on its final possession.
Le Moyne (13-12, 10-7 NE10), which hangs on to fifth place in the NE10 standings by virtue of Franklin Pierce's loss to Southern New Hampshire, heads to Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday to take on American International College at 3:30 p.m.
