THIRD-RANKED WEST CHESTER HOLDS OFF FIFTH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE, 12-9

West Chester, Pa. – A trio of preseason all-Americans combined for 13 points to lead third-ranked West Chester University to a 12-9 victory over the fifth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

"West Chester showed why they are a top-five team today," said head coach Liz Beville. "Unfortunately, it took us a little too long to make some key stops and to find the back of the net. Paige (Crandall) did a fantastic job keeping us in the game as always."

West Chester, which improves to 2-1 against the Dolphins at home (2012 win, 2019 loss), scored twice in the opening two minutes of the game. Lindsay Monigle, a USA Lacrosse Magazine second team preseason All-American, started the scoring just 36 seconds into the game with her 13th tally of the season. She then fed Keri Barnett, a USA Lacrosse Magazine third team selection, for her 13th goal with 13:08 remaining in the first quarter.

Graduate student attacker Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard at the 5:58 mark after taking a pass from graduate student attacker Sara Goodwin (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Virginia Tech).

The Golden Rams regained their two-goal lead 91 seconds later as Monigle finished off a pass from Meg O'Donnell.

Goodwin tallied her 16th goal of the season only 34 seconds later to get the Dolphins back within one.

Hannah Stanislawczyk, who joined Meneilly on the USA Lacrosse Magazine preseason All-America First Team, closed out the scoring in the first quarter by converting a free-position shot in an extra-player situation with 23 seconds left.

The teams alternated goals in the second quarter. West Chester took its first three-goal lead of the game at the 13:22 mark of the second quarter as Julia Littlewood tallied her fifth goal of the season after collecting a pass from Monigle.

Meneilly capitalized on a free-position shot to get the Dolphins back within two with 12:40 to go.

Stanislawczyk answered five minutes later with another free-position goal in an extra-player situation for a 6-3 lead.

Junior midfielder Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) continued the see-saw at the 6:49 mark by scoring off a pass from Goodwin.

Barnett concluded the scoring in the half with her 14th goal of the season at the 4:00 mark off a free-position shot.

Meneilly opened the scoring in the third quarter by finding the back of the net at the 8:25 mark on a free-position shot.

The Golden Rams answered with a pair of goals for their first four-goal margin. Stanislawczyk registered her 20th goal of the campaign with 6:46 left off a free-position shot. Barnett tallied her third goal of the game 1:34 later off another dish from Monigle.

Junior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) picked up her seventh goal of the season with 2:46 remaining after taking a pass from Goodwin to get the Dolphins within 9-6.

The teams traded three-goal runs in the fourth quarter. Barnett started the scoring just 35 seconds into the period with her 16th marker of the season. Lila McMahon-Skates followed with a free-position goal in a player-down situation with 9:31 to play. Littlewood put West Chester up 12-6 with 6:01 left off a pass from Monigle.

Le Moyne countered with a 3-0 run of its own. Graduate student midfielder Katelyn Karleski (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) started the streak with her seventh goal of the season with 5:12 left. Meneilly tallied her fourth goal of the day two minutes later off a dish from senior attacker Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). Meneilly scored again with 1:32 remaining after taking a pass from graduate student midfielder Adrianna Nojaim (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee).

Senior goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) recorded 12 saves, including four in the third quarter, in the setback. Jessica Gorr, a USA Lacrosse Magazine preseason All-America First Team selection, turned away 11 shots, including three in each of the last three quarters, en route to the victory.

Le Moyne (4-1) opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday at home against Franklin Pierce University at 12:00 p.m.
