BASEBALL DROPS FINAL TWO GAMES OF SERIES AT SETON HILL

Greensburg, Pa. – The Le Moyne College baseball team dropped the final two games of their non-conference series at Seton Hill University on Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins claimed a 5-0 win during game one then they scored a run in the bottom of the seventh during game two to earn a 5-4 walk-off victory.

Seton Hill senior left-handed pitcher Kevin Vaupel allowed just two hits, zero runs and two walks with 11 strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched to earn the complete-game shutout victory in game one.

Redshirt-sophomore right-hander Jordan Goldmann (Encinitas, Calif/Canyon Crest Academy/Palomar College/Grossmont College) started game one on the mound for the 'Phins and completed 5.2 innings of work before graduate righty John Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) got the final out in the sixth inning.

Graduate second baseman Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) provided both of Le Moyne's hits during the game one setback.

Jack Whalen delivered two hits and a team-high two RBIs for Seton Hill during game one.

Goldmann did not allow a run during the first four innings, then the Griffins scored two in the bottom of the fifth, then three more in the seventh.

Le Moyne put runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the sixth, but Vaupel got a ground ball to end the inning and maintain the shutout bid.

Vaupel recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh to end the game.

During game two, Seton Hill senior right-hander Jack Oberdorf launched a solo home run in the bottom of the first to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

The Griffins put runners on first and second with two outs in the second inning, but Le Moyne starting pitcher Kennen Smith (Poughquag, N.Y./Arlington) struck out the next batter swinging to end the inning.

Freshman right-hander Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) entered the game for Smith with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, and the Griffins were able to scratch across three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0.

Swiencicki walked the leadoff batter in the bottom of the third, but retired the next three batters in order to end the inning.

Le Moyne senior relief pitcher Jed Boyle (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) held the Griffins scoreless during the fifth and sixth innings, then Le Moyne rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh.

Graduate first baseman Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/UMass Lowell) led off the seventh frame with a single to right field, then freshman Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) doubled to right field to put runners on second and third with zero outs.

Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) drew a walk during the next at bat to load the bases, then Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was hit by a pitch to drive in Roden from third.

Seton Hill made a pitching change, then Lukas Egenhauser (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) drew a walk to drive in Keneston and trim Le Moyne's deficit to 4-2.

Freshman Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) ripped a two-RBI single up the middle during the next at bat to tie the game at 4-4.

Seton Hill got a ground ball and a line-drive double play to end the inning and prevent further damage.

SHU catcher Vincenzo Rauso drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, then stole second, advanced to third on an error, and scored on a wild pitch to end the game and give the Griffins a 5-4 win.

The Le Moyne College baseball team will be back in action on Saturday, March 25 when they travel to Saint Anselm College for a four-game non-conference weekend series against the Hawks.
