Pleasantville, N.Y. – Aleya Corretjer tallied nine points to lead third-ranked Pace University to a 16-5 victory over the fifth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Pace Stadium.
Following over six minutes of scoreless action to start the game, the Penmen scored twice in 39 seconds. Jolie Urraro started the scoring at the 8:45 mark off a feed from Corretjer, who followed with her 15th goal of the season off a pass from Emma Rafferty.
Le Moyne got on the scoreboard just over 90 seconds later as graduate student attacker
Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied her 22nd goal of the season after collecting a pass from senior attacker
Gemma Addonizio (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). With the goal, Meneilly tied Gold Wave Hall of Fame member Amanda Daniels '03 for sixth on the program's career goals list with her 164th.
Pace scored the final four goals of the quarter. Angelina Porcello ignited the run with her 16th goal of the season with 5:47 left. Nikki Mottes followed with her sixth goal of the year at the 4:19 off a dish from Corretjer, who followed with her team's fifth and sixth goals in a span of 35 seconds with the last coming off a pass from Porcello.
The Setters tallied the first three goals of the second quarter to take a 9-1 lead. Corretjer netted her third consecutive goal at the 14:14 mark by converting a free-position shot. Rafferty followed with her 24th goal of the season with 12:11 left off a dish from Corretjer. Rafferty capped the streak with a free-position goal with 8:28 remaining.
Graduate student midfielder
Adrianna Nojaim (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) snapped the drought with a free-position goal with 6:45 left.
Pace recorded the final two goals of the quarter to take an 11-2 lead into the intermission. Rafferty go the Setters into double digits with 5:49 to go off a pass from Corretjer to force a Le Moyne timeout. Porcello capped the scoring with 28 seconds remaining.
The Setters tallied the first four goals of the third quarter to take their largest lead of the game. Katie Long opened the scoring with her 10th goal of the season by converting a free-position shot to put the Setters up by double figures. It marked the first time the Dolphins faced a double-digit deficit since the NCAA Championship semifinals against Adelphi University on May 19, 2016. Corretjer followed with her fifth goal of the game and 19th of the season with 7:53 left. Kayla Conway won the ensuing draw and then found the back of the net with 6:55 left for her 14th goal of the season. Urraro capped the stretch with 4:52 remaining for a 15-2 lead with her 15th goal of the campaign. The 15-2 deficit is the first time the Dolphins have trailed by as many as 13 goals since trailing the University of Florida by the same score on April 9, 2010 before falling 15-3.
Graduate student attacker
Sara Goodwin (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Virginia Tech) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard in the quarter with her 23rd goal of the season with 1:05 left.
Le Moyne scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to close within 10. Off a free-position attempt, Meneilly sent a pass to a cutting Goodwin, who dumped the ball into the net from the right edge of the crease with 12:30 left. One and one-half minutes later, junior midfielder
Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) tallied her fifth goal of the season.
Margaret Flocco completed the scoring in the game with 1:00 left off a pass from Rafferty to end her team's scoring drought of 18:52.
Senior goalkeeper
Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered 11 saves in the loss for the Dolphins. Samantha Tanguay earned the win after making three saves.
Le Moyne (5-2, 1-1 NE10), which suffered its most lop-sided loss as a Division II program (since 2011), is back in action on Wednesday at 20th-ranked University of New Haven at 4:00 p.m.
