Baltimore, Md. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened its Spring season on Saturday night with a 4-0 setback to Morgan State University at Coppermine Bare Hills.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. Averiana Mitchell and Lauryn Hall were victorious at the second spot, 6-1, over sophomore
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and junior
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott). Hannah Smith and Asmara Rose clinched the point by edging freshman
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and senior
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) at the first position, 7-5. Stefania Moysiadi and Anabel Aran were leading freshmen
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey), 6-5, when doubles was ended.
Morgan State captured the match by winning each of the first three positions in the singles competition to finish. Rose swept Alvarez at the third spot, 6-0, 6-0. Smith was then a 7-5, 6-2 winner at the top position over Simeonova. Mitchell closed out the match by topping Barona in the tightest match of the night, 7-5, 7-5.
Le Moyne (9-6) plays its final road match of the year on Sunday against Bloomsburg University at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa.
