Rochester, N.Y. – Redshirt sophomore midfielder
Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) recorded a career-high three goals to lead the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to an 11-3 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon at Redhawks Field.
Roberts Wesleyan opened the game's scoring just 48 seconds into the contest as Gunner MacMillian tallied his 23rd goal of the campaign after taking a pass from Jordan Deats.
Le Moyne answered with four straight goals. Sophomore attackman
Isaac Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) evened the scored just 25 seconds later after collecting a feed from fifth-year midfielder
Sam Lambert (Victor, N.Y./Victor). Senior midfielder
Joel Firth (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) put the Dolphins in front with 10:18 left with his first goal of the season. Frechette scored again at the 7:35 mark off another dish from Lambert. Junior midfielder
Sam Cary (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) capped the stretch with his first goal of the year with 5:07 to go in the opening quarter.
MacMillian netted his 24th goal with 1:04 remaining off a pass from Reid Jackowski to pull the Redhawks within 4-2.
Le Moyne scored the only three goals of the second quarter. Junior midfielder
Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) put the Dolphins back up by three by tallying his ninth goal of the year at the 9:29 mark in a 6-on-4 situation. Sophomore attackman
Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) followed 24 seconds later with his first goal of the season. Loun registered his first goal of the contest with 7:13 remaining to give the Dolphins a 7-2 lead, which they carried into the intermission.
Loun recorded his second straight goal just 35 seconds into the third quarter.
Deats answered back one and one-half minutes later with his 10th goal of the year, which concluded Roberts Wesleyan's scoring.
The Dolphins scored the final two goals of the quarter. Junior attackman
Preston Taylor (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) found the back of the net for the third time this year with 5:47 remaining off a pass from Lambert. Loun got the Dolphins into double digits with 2:17 left in the quarter.
Taylor scored 1:03 into the fourth quarter off a pass from Loun to complete the scoring in the contest.
Graduate student goalkeeper
Matt Vavonese (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Canisius) registered 12 saves, including five saves in the second quarter, to earn his career-best fourth victory of the season. Andy Davis made nine saves in the loss.
With the victory, head coach
Dan Sheehan passed David Urick (Hobart 1979-89, Georgetown 1990-2012) for sole possession of 12th place on the NCAA's career victories list with his 353rd.
Le Moyne (4-0), which recorded its seventh straight win over the Redhawks, opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday, March 18 against 10th-ranked Saint Anselm College at 12:00 p.m.
