Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior third baseman
Makenzie Konik's game-ending RBI during game two of the softball's team doubleheader sweep of Southern Connecticut State University at the Le Moyne Softball Complex on Saturday is the Le Moyne College Play of the Week, presented by McNeil & Co., for the week ending on April 9.
After earning a 2-1 win over SCSU in the first contest of Saturday's home doubleheader, the Dolphins took a 6-2 lead on the Owls in game two before scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game via run rule.
Konik provided the game-ending RBI on a base hit up the middle. The senior from Scotia got behind in the count 0-2 before driving a low pitch over the pitcher's head and into the center field grass. The bases were loaded on the play, and Konik would have gotten two RBIs in a normal situation, but after senior center fielder
Isabelle Boudreau (Memramcook, New Brunswick/Mathieu-Martin/Pace) crossed the plate from third base to make it 10-2 in favor of the Dolphins, the game was over and the 'Phins stormed the infield to celebrate Konik's walk-off.
The Le Moyne softball team (18-15, 7-5 NE10) will return to action this weekend with a doubleheader at Assumption University (12-12, 4-6 NE10) on Friday, followed by a doubleheader at American International (4-28, 1-11) on Saturday.
