Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College baseball team lost both games of their conference-opening doubleheader on Friday against the Southern Connecticut State University Owls at Dick Rockwell Field.
The Owls jumped on the Dolphins in game one and took a 21-7 win to open the four-game series, then SCSU scored a go-ahead run in the top of the sixth in game two to earn a 2-1 victory in the second half of Friday's doubleheader.
The Dolphins and the Owls will play another doubleheader on Dick Rockwell Field on Saturday at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
SCSU scored two runs in each of the first three innings during game one, then put up four runs in the fifth, and five in both the sixth and eighth frames.
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame), and
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) both recorded three hits during the game one setback, while
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) and
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) both provided two hits for the 'Phins. Carroll led Le Moyne with two RBIs in game one.
SCSU's Zack Healy tallied three hits, three runs scored and a game-high four RBIs during his team's 21-7 win, while the Owls' third baseman Derrick Jagello scored a game-high six runs to go along with four hits and three RBIs.

Max Parker (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) kept the SCSU offense in check during game two, allowing just five hits, two runs, and zero earned runs with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
Freshman righty
Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) pitched a scoreless top of the seventh for Le Moyne, and the Dolphins put runners on first and third with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to tie the game.
SCSU redshirt-sophomore left-hander Steve Phillips limited the Dolphins to two hits, three walks and one run in 6.0 innings during game two, then redshirt-junior right-hander Tommy Hughes pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh to earn the save.
Le Moyne sophomore catcher
Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) recorded one of Le Moyne's three hits during the 2-1 setback and drove in the lone run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.
Southern Connecticut State improved their record to 19-7 overall, including 2-0 in NE10 play, following Friday's doubleheader.
The Dolphins drop to 15-13 overall and 0-2 in conference.
