Perry, N.Y. – Senior defenseman
Nick Noel (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) and graduate student attackman
Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) of the Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team have been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-America team, as announced by the association on Wednesday afternoon.
Le Moyne's selections are two of 40 Division II student-athletes to earn USILA Scholar All-America honors and two of just six student-athletes from the Northeast-10 Conference to be recognized (along with two student-athletes from Pace University and one each from Adelphi University and Saint Anselm College).
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Please note that simply being a member of the North/South team and/or being All League/Conference does not make the Student-Athlete a lock for the award. Each Individual will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Scholar AA committee.
Noel earned the first USILA All-America honors of his career by being named honorable mention after picking up his first career all-region and all-conference recognition with a spot on the second team of each. A starter in all 18 games played, he led the nation's second-ranked defense with 49 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers, both of which are career highs. A Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference selection last week, he ranked second in the NE10 amongst non-faceoff specialists in ground balls. He had 15 games with multiple ground balls, including three games with at least four, and a trio of games with at least two caused turnovers, including a career-high four in the NCAA semifinals.
Sheehan was an Honorable Mention USILA All-Region honoree for the second time in his career (2021). A starter in all 17 games played, he registered 34 points on a career-best 25 goals and nine assists, while adding a career-high 23 ground balls. He had eight games with at least three points, including each of the team's four postseasons contests, and nine games with at least two goals, including four games with a trio of tallies.
The Dolphins closed out the season with a 17-1 record after appearing in the NCAA semifinals for the 17th time in the last 21 full seasons.
