Fort Myers, FL. – The Le Moyne College volleyball traveled down to Fort Myers, Florida for the FGCU Classic. For their first game of the trip, the Dolphin's took on Florida Atlantic University. The Owls took all three sets to take the match 3-0 with set scores of 25-13, 25-12, and 25-14.
For the Dolphin's, junior outside hitter
Emily La Ruffa (Rock Hill, N.Y. / Monticello) had six kills, sophomore middle hitter
Kayla Anstett (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) had five kills, and senior outside hitter
Madison Dembroski (Plattekill, N.Y. / Wallkill) had three kills. Freshman opposite/outside hitter
Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, Ontario / Napanee District Secondary School) recorded three blocks, middle hitter
Nil Ezgi Tasdelen (Izmir, Turkey / Ugur Okullari) and Anstett recorded one block each. Sophomore setter
Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) had 17 assists. Junior libero/DS
Ella Katz (Burnt Hills, N.Y. / Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake) registered eight digs, La Ruffa had 5 digs, and Gerken had 4.
For the Owl's, Kaila Ru had 10 kills, Romina Cornelio had eight kills, and Katelynn Robine had six. Victoria Hensley had 26 assists, Isabelle Northam had five assists and nine digs. Noelle Stephens had four assists. Raine Lynch and Cornelio had five digs.
The second match of the day was against the University of Maryland. The Terrapin's took all three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-9, and 25-10 to win the match. For the Dolphin's, La Ruffa recorded five digs followed by Dembroski and Anstett with three. Ezgi Tasdelen and La Ruffa tied for three blocks each. Buescher recorded six digs followed by Katz and Gerken with four.
For the Terrapin's, Erin Morrissey recorded nine kills, Samantha Schnitta had six kills and Laila Ricks had five kills. Erin Engel registered 14 assists, Zoe Huang had 12 assist, and Lily Gunter had three assists. Gunter also registered nine digs, Engel had five digs, and Jonna Spohn had five digs.
The Dolphins will finish their stay at the FGCU Classic tomorrow Saturday, September 16
th by playing Florida Gulf Coast University at 11:00AM.
