MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS STONEHILL, 2-0

Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College men's soccer team added three points in the Northeast Conference Standings with a 2-0 win at Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon.

Redshirt-freshman defender
Vito Kreuzpaintner (Munich, Bavaria, Germany/FOS Nord/UNC Wilmington) and senior defender Brady McNulty (San Gabriel, Calif./Temple City/Niagara) each scored in the first half off of set pieces taken by redshirt-senior defender Jack Goodrich (Kelsall, England/King's School Chester) and redshirt-freshman forward Justin Pham (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Dayton), and the Dolphins held the Skyhawks to one shot on goal during the 90 minutes to record their second consecutive shutout win on the road in conference play.

"It was good to get a win and a clean sheet on the road against a very good team," said Le Moyne head coach Callum Donnelly '17, M '21. "We were strong in the first half with the wind [behind us], and had to battle in the second half against it. We are showing different ways to win which is great. We are looking to build on some positives into Tuesday's game against a strong Lafayette team," Donnelly concluded.

Le Moyne sophomore goalkeeper Wyatt Dupell (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied his fourth clean sheet of the season, which is tied for the second-most among all NEC goalkeepers. Dupell also lowered his goals against average to .900, which is the best mark in the league.

Kreuzpaintner's goal was the first of his collegiate career. McNulty registered his second goal of the campaign to double Le Moyne's lead, while Pham provided his second assist of the season, and Goodrich delivered his first assist of the year, which was also the 12th of his Le Moyne career.

Along with his team-high four goals this season, Goodrich's nine points is tied for the fifth-most among all NEC players.

Both teams recorded nine shots during the match, with Le Moyne putting three of their chances on target compared to one for Stonehill. The Dolphins held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-4.

Dupell, Kreuzpaintner, Goodrich, McNulty, junior forward Cameron Stuart (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley), sophomore defender Maximilian Huss (Karben, Germany/Elly-Heuss-Schule) and graduate defender Victor Boje Henriksen (Greve, Denmark/Greve Gymnasium/Saint Rose) each played the full 90 minutes as the Dolphins improved their record to 5-1-4, including 2-0-1 against Northeast Conference opponents, and 3-1-1 on the road.

Le Moyne's .700 winning percentage through 10 games is the best mark among NEC teams. The Dolphins are currently second in the league standings with seven points through three conference matches.

Dupell recorded his lone save of the match in the 18th minute when he came off his line and stopped a shot from Stonehill's Jared Rapoza at point-blank range.

Midway through the first half, Stuart stole the ball near the right sideline and drew a free kick for the Dolphins about 45 yards from goal. Goodrich sent a ball in the air to the center of the Stonehill penalty area where Kreuzpaintner brought it down and placed a shot into the left side of the net to put the Dolphins in front.

Less than four minutes later, Pham won a corner kick for the 'Phins. Pham took the corner himself from the left flag and curled a right-footed cross towards the far post where McNulty connected on a header that bounced into the right side of the goal to give Le Moyne a 2-0 advantage.

Le Moyne nearly added another goal in the 36th minute when Goodrich ripped a left-footed shot from inside the 18-yard box that struck the crossbar. Freshman forward Rhys Allport (Wirral, England/Reaseheath) volleyed the ball into the back of the net on the rebound attempt, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul committed by Le Moyne in the box.

Stonehill held the advantage in shots and corner kicks during the second half, but with several blocked shots and timely clearances, Le Moyne's defense did not allow anything on target during the final 45 minutes.

Following the win, the Dolphins are now unbeaten in their last eight matches.

Le Moyne improves to 21-5-1 all-time against Stonehill. Le Moyne won each of the final four matches between the two programs as Division II opponents from 2017-21, then the Dolphins and the Skyhawks battled to a 2-2 draw during the 2023 season in their first match as NEC foes.

Le Moyne will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at home against Lafayette College, then will resume NEC action on October 20 at home against Central Connecticut State University.
