VOLLEYBALL WINS FIRST HOME MATCH OF SEASON AGAINST STONEHILL

Syracuse, N.Y.  – The Le Moyne College volleyball team hosted Stonehill College and came away with their first conference win of the season at home on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins came away with the victory in four sets, 25-16, 14-25, 25-19, 25-15 and now sit at 2-14 overall and 1-3 in NEC play this season.

A mid-set rally in the first frame extended the Dolphins' lead to five points and they were able to hold on despite a comeback effort from the Skyhawks. Set two saw Stonehill come out to a 5-1 lead early and a five-point rally in the middle of the set put it out of reach for the Dolphins. The third set was back-and-forth throughout but three late kills put it away in Le Moyne's favor. 14 kills paved the way for the Dolphins to take the match, and their first home win of the season, in the fourth set.

For the Dolphins, sophomore opposite hitter Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, O.N. / Napanee District Secondary School) and freshman outside hitter Denali Louden (Murrieta, C.A. / Murrieta Mesa) tied for the team lead in kills with 12. Also on offense, freshman setter Skylar Jehlen (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili) led with 19 assists while junior setter Haley Gerken (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frontier) followed right behind with 18. Jehlen also contributed four service aces in the matchup. Defensively, Gerken led with 17 digs while Louden and freshman outside hitter Jordyn Hamlin (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) each tallied another 10 for the 'Phins. Lupton and freshman middle hitter Anaya Rawlinson (Whitby, O.N. / Sinclair Secondary School) each recorded one block solo and three block assists in the win.

For Stonehill, Abby Farrell led with 10 kills while Amaya Parnell (11) and Maddie Schamaun (10) each put up double-digit assists. On defense, Mia Berardino put up a team-high 10 digs while Georgia Murphy put up another nine for the Skyhawks. Leah Michalowski tallied a team-best three block assists in the matchup.

The Dolphins will travel to Chicago State University to take on the Cougars in another set of NEC contests beginning on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 P.M.
