Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Roberts Wesleyan University at Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool on Saturday afternoon. Both squads claimed their first victories of the season with the men's team winning 206-94 while the women's team came away on top, 206-92.
"We had a great day. The unexpected venue change made for a bonus home meet," said head coach Adam Zaczkowski '04. "I want to thank the fans who came out; another standing room only meet at the Ryan pool. We are so fortunate to have this level of support."
"For the women, there were a number of stand out performances. Sophomore Madeleine O'Dea (Milton, O.N. / Milton District) had a great 200-yd breaststroke and barely missed the pool record. Freshman Kim Velazquez (Fairfield C.T. / Fairfield Warde) swam great in the 1000-yd free and 200-yd butterfly, winning both races. The last relay where the 'A' and 'B' teams were separated by .01 seconds was a great way to finish. Sophomore Kerry Hunter (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) had the meet of her life and I'm so proud of her and her accomplishments."
"For the men, Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) broke the 200-yd breaststroke pool record and is continuing to have a breakout freshman campaign. Sophomore Michael Han (Auckland, N.Z. / Pakuranga College) shook off some nagging injuries and reignited his season. Freshman Nolan Carner (Weedsport, N.Y. / Weedsport) is surprising us week after week."
"For diving, the 290 points from junior Patrick Scott (Utica, N.Y. / New Hartford / Niagara) in the 1m diving was a season-best while on the women's side all three divers, freshman Gabby Williams (Scotia, N.Y. / Scotia-Glenville), junior Riley Brennen (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford), and freshman Alyssa Kearns (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker) all were at season-best points."
"We are ending our fall dual-meet season with great momentum headed into the Magnus Cup at Cleveland State University at the end of the month."
