NOTRE DAME RECORDS 91-62 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

South Bend, Ind. – Tae Davis registered 24 points to lead the University of Notre Dame to a 91-62 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team on Sunday night at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

Redshirt junior forward Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (Md.)/Iona/Salt Lake C.C./UT Arlington) led the Dolphins offensively with a career-high 22 points, including 15 in the first half, while adding eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Graduate student guard Robby Carmody (Mars, Pa./Mars Area/Notre Dame/Mercer) tallied 13 points, which is tied for his most points in 17 career games at the Purcell Pavilion, while posting three rebounds and a pair of steals. Sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) recorded 10 points, three assists and three rebounds in his return to his home state.

Davis tallied 14 of his game-best point total in the first half, while adding six rebounds and two assists. Braeden Shrewsberry recorded 14 points, including 10 in the opening half. Logan Imes had a career-high 11 points off the bench, while adding four assists and two steals.

Davis opened the game with the first five points over the initial 1:09.

Following a three-pointer by redshirt sophomore forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) to get the Dolphins with 11-8 with 15:55 left, the Fighting Irish got a lay-up from J.R. Konieczny and a three-pointer from Matt Allocco to take an eight-point lead.

Le Moyne scored seven of the next nine points to get within 18-15 with 10:59 left, but that's as close as the Dolphins would get the remainder of the game. Koroma had the first two points and then Carmody, who appeared in 23 games over five injury-plagued years as a member of the Notre Dame program, scored five in a row.

Notre Dame responded with a 16-2 run over the next 4:27 to blow the game open. Kebba Njie started the run with a lay-up, Shrewsberry hit a three-pointer, Allocco made a lay-up, Davis converted two free throws, Shrewsberry connected on back-to-back jumpers and then Julian Roper II buried a three-pointer for a 34-17 advantage.

The teams went back and forth over the next five minutes as Notre Dame's lead bounced between 13 and 19 points and resulted in a 46-30 margin after Carmody made three free throws.

Shrewsberry had a conventional three-point play with nine second left to give Notre Dame a 49-30 lead at halftime.

The Fighting Irish pushed their lead to 59-33 with 10 of the first 13 points of the second half. Davis had six of the points, Njie made a three-pointer and Roper II made a foul shot, while Koroma had Le Moyne's three points.

Following the under-16 media timeout, Notre Dame scored nine of the next 12 points for its first 30-point lead of the season. Davis scored the first four points, Konieczny made a three-pointer after fifth-year guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) made one of his own and then Imes made two free throws for a 68-38 lead with 13:00 left.

Le Moyne scored six of the next eight points to cut its deficit to 70-44 with 11:21 to play. Dancler and graduate student guard Will Amica (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/UAlbany) each recorded conventional three-point plays in the stretch.

Notre Dame scored the next five points for its largest lead of the game. Burke Chebuhar made a three-pointer and then Davis converted two foul shots with 10:05 remaining.

The Dolphins countered with a 12-4 run to close within 79-56 with 6:13 to play. Carmody made two free throws to start the run, Dancler hit a three-pointer, Koroma recorded a dunk, Carmody drained his second career three-pointer in the Purcell Pavilion and then Koroma capped the streak with a lay-up.

Notre Dame scored 12 of the last 18 points of the game to deliver the final margin, which matched Notre Dame's win over fellow NEC-foe Stonehill to open the season (89-60). Imes scored the first seven points and Cole Certa followed with the first five points of his career.

Le Moyne (5-9) concludes its regular season non-conference slate on Sunday at Niagara University at 2:00 p.m.
