MEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS BINGHAMTON SATURDAY IN SECOND ANNUAL "BATTLE FOR THE INTERSTATE"

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's basketball team will take on Binghamton University in a non-conference matchup at Ted Grant Court on Saturday, Dec. 7 with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Series History:
The Dolphins and Bearcats are currently knotted 3-3 in their programs' series history. Le Moyne took the first two meetings in the 1997-98 and '98-99 seasons before splitting a pair of matchups in the '99-00 campaign. Binghamton has taken the last two games, with their wins coming in '00-01 and on Dec. 9 of last season at home, 91-79. 

Common Opponents:
Le Moyne and Binghamton have five common opponents this season.

Binghamton fell to NEC rival, Central Connecticut State University, 64-56, on the road on Nov. 24. The 'Phins will host CCSU on Friday, Jan. 24 before heading to New Britain to finish out their season set on Thursday, Feb. 27. 

The Bearcats took on two familiar opponents during the Lafayette Classic earlier this season. First, the team fell to Niagara University, 65-62, last Friday, Nov. 29 before downing LIU in their second game of the tournament, 75-70, in overtime. Le Moyne will travel to take on the Purple Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 29 before opening up conference play in Brooklyn against the Sharks on Friday, Jan. 3. The Dolphins will later host LIU at Ted Grant Court on Saturday, Feb. 22. 

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Bearcats will host Mercyhurst University before conference play begins and Le Moyne faces them at home on Sunday, Jan. 12 and on the road on Saturday, Feb. 8. 

Finally, Binghamton will head downstate to take on Army West Point, which the Dolphins just fell to in dramatic fashion, on Tuesday, Dec. 22. 

Dolphins' Season:
Le Moyne has played to a 3-7 record this season, with their most recent matchup ending in a 103-100 triple overtime loss to Army on Tuesday night. Prior to the defeat, the Dolphins went 1-2 in a roadtrip to Texas before taking down Manhattan University, 81-77, on the road last Friday, Nov. 29. 

Junior guard Zek Tekin (Istanbul, Turkey/Ozel Esenkent Okaynus Anadolu Lisesi/Siena) tallied team highs in points (19), assists (five), and steals (three) while shooting 12-13 from the free-throw line and adding seven rebounds against Army. Tekin's 19 points marked a season-high and he currently leads the team in assists with 44 through 10 games this season.  

Redshirt junior forward Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (Md.)/Iona/Salt Lake C.C./UT Arlington) came off the bench for the first time this season and recorded 19 points, as well, on a team-high 70% from the field, a team-leading 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 39 minutes of action on Tuesday night. His 19 points also marked a new season-high and he leads Le Moyne in points per game with 12.5 and field goal percentage (74.3%), while sitting second in rebounds per game (6.3) and steals (13). 

Redshirt sophomore forward Nate Fouts (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles/Kimball Union Academy) put together 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal in his third start of the season in the loss. Fouts has appeared in all 10 games for the Dolphins and is averaging 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest while ranking second in blocks with four on the year.

Graduate guard Will Amica (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/UAlbany) registered 16 points, five rebounds, a trio of assists, and one steal in 33 minutes of action against Army. In Amica's five appearances this season, he has averaged 10.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Senior forward Ocypher Owens (Orlando, Fla./Orlando Christian Prep/Indian River State) played a team-high 45 minutes against the Black Knights and produced 14 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks (team-high), and three assists for Le Moyne. A force on both ends of the court, Owens currently leads the squad in minutes per game (32.2), rebounds per game (7.7), and blocks (seven) while sitting at 11.7 points per game. 

Fifth-year guard Darrick Jones Jr. (Richmond, Va./Oak Hill Academy/Towson) and sophomore guard AJ Dancler (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) rounded out the Dolphins' starting five in their latest matchup and combined for 15 points, six rebounds, and one block in 35 minutes of action each. Jones has played in nine games and is averaging 5.7 points per game while Dancler is sitting at 7.4 points through eight games played. 

The Dolphins shot 40.2% from the field through regulation and three overtime periods, along with a season-high 91.7% from the line against Army. 

A Look at the Bearcats:
Binghamton currently sits at 4-6 on the season with early wins coming against SUNY Oneonta, 82-63, in their home-opener on Thursday, Nov. 7 and Misericordia University, 77-48, on Saturday, Nov. 16. Most recently, the Bearcats went 2-1 in the Lafayette Classic from Nov. 29-Dec. 1, falling to Niagara before downing both LIU and Lafayette College (82-81 in overtime). 

In their most recent game against Lafayette, graduate guard Tymu Chenery led the way with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists while going 8-10 from the free-throw line. Chenery leads Binghamton in points, averaging 14.6 through 10 games, while also sitting at the top of the ranks in three-point percentage (44.2%) and steals (nine).

Redshirt junior guard Chris Walker tallied 20 points (with the help of a trio of three-pointers), eight rebounds, and one steal against the Leopards. Walker is averaging nine points, 4.7 rebounds, and has added 25 assists so far this season.

Graduate forward Ben Callahan-Gold added another 17 points on 75% shooting while going 5-7 from behind the arc in 32 minutes of action off the bench in the recent win. Callahan-Gold leads the team in threes made with 29 through 10 appearances this year and is currently perfect from the free-throw line while averaging 11.7 points (second-best on the roster).

Sophomore forward Gavin Walsh rounded out the squad's double-digit scorers against Lafayette as he dropped 15 points while bringing in nine boards and adding three assists, as well. Walsh leads Binghamton in rebounds per game with 9.5 and steals, along with Chenery, with nine through 10 starts. 

Senior guard Wes Peterson Jr. rounded out the attack and recorded five points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the win on Sunday. Peterson leads the team in field goal percentage, dropping nearly 62% of his attempts this season.

Senior forward Nehemiah Benson was the final starter against Lafayette and he added two points, four rebounds, and one block in only 10 minutes of action. Benson has started in six games this season and is shooting nearly 55% from the field en route to 10.4 points per contest.

The Bearcats' 83 points against Lafayette matched their season-high that they put up in their early-season win over SUNY Oneonta. 

What's Next:
Le Moyne will host SUNY-Delhi in the final game of their homestand at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.
