DeWitt, N.Y. – Andrew Fang rallied in the second set to win at sixth singles to give Binghamton University a 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team in Northeast Conference action on Friday night at Elevate Fitness.
The Bearcats opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the second position, Ronin Lotlikar and Kyle Weekes defeated junior
Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student
Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb), 6-1. William Binnie and James McPherson clinched the point with a 6-4 over graduate students
Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) and
Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) at the top spot. Fang and Filipe Costa completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at the third position over graduate students
Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and
Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense).
The teams split the singles competition to give the victory to Binghamton for the second time in three weeks. Binnie put the Bearcats up 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Stojanovic at the second position. Hatton got the Dolphins on the board by defeating Lotlikar, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0, at the top spot for his fifth straight victory. Costa put Binghamton back up by two with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the fourth position over Piekarek. Nunez rallied to down Weekes for the second time in 20 days, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the third spot. Grundstroem evened the match at three apiece by defeating Matt Carlson, 6-3, 6-1, at the fifth position. Fang topped Beires 6-2 in the first set and then rallied from down 4-3 to win the second set, 6-4, at the sixth spot to close out the match.
Le Moyne (5-4, 2-3 NEC) is back in action on Sunday at Niagara University at 2:00 p.m. at Village Glen Tennis Courts in Williamsville, N.Y.
