Rock Hill, S.C. – The Le Moyne College softball team took on the second day of the Winthrop Eagle Classic by falling to University of South Carolina – Upstate and Monmouth University on Saturday. The Dolphins fell to USC-Upstate, 9-1, for their first game of the day and then fell short to Monmouth 10-3 finish the day.
USC-Upstate opened the game by scoring a run in the second inning by their short stop Alanna Deal off of an RBI by DP C. Show. The Spartans then scored another run off of an RBI from Celeste Delorenzo earning Abby Polk a run making it 2-0. Le Moyne then responded in the fourth with
Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) answering with her first homerun of the season. The Spartans then fought back with three more runs in the fourth bringing the score to 5-1 and another four in the sixth to close out the game 9-1.
In the second game of the day, Monmouth came out hard scoring three runs in the first inning. Sophomore designated player
Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) responded with a double hit into right field to lead off the second. Classmate
Alayna Bush (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) pinch ran for Benderski and brought in a run off of an RBI from freshman left-fielder
Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse).
At the bottom of the second, the Hawks score four runs by Tessa Thompson, Savannah Simmons, Dani Dabroski, and Abby Warner making it 7-1. Le Moyne went without scoring in the third, followed by Monmouth scoring another three runs from Thompson, Lexi Castaneda, and Dabroski. The Dolphins then answered with two runs in the fourth by graduate student catcher
Brandi Feeny (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Saint Peter's) and Nesci. The Hawks held the Dolphins from then on, finishing the game 10-3 to end the day.
Le Moyne (0-4) is back in action on Sunday with their last game of the Winthrop Eagle Classic against Binghamton University 10:00 a.m.
