SIENA RECORDS 4-3 VICTORY OVER MEN’S TENNIS

Latham, N.Y. – Siena College claimed four singles victories to defeat the Le Moyne College men's tennis team, 4-3, on Saturday evening at Tri-City Fitness.

Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the match by securing the point in the doubles competition. At the first spot, graduate students Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) and Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) recorded a 6-4 victory over Dylan Breen and Andrea Morol. Graduate students Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense) clinched the point with a 7-6 (7-4) win at the third position over Zino Varouhas-Poole and Maxwell Acri. Fabio Varella and Oscar Martinez prevented the sweep with a 7-6 (7-4) victory at the second spot over junior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb).

The Saints won four of the six singles matches to secure the victory. At the second spot, Martinez was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Grundstroem. Duarte Melo won at the fifth position over Stojanovic, 6-4, 6-3. Breen defeated junior Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius' College) at the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-3. Acri clinched the match for the Saints with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win over Piekarek at the fourth position. Hatton won his team-best 12th match of the year, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, at the top spot over Varella. Nunez was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at the third position over Varouhas-Poole.

Le Moyne (7-9) is back in action on Sunday, March 24 against Merrimack College at 9:00 a.m. Prior to the match, the members of the graduate student class will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
