BASEBALL DEFEATS COPPIN STATE 17-1 IN HOME OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. – 11 different Dolphins recorded a hit during the Le Moyne baseball team's 17-1 Northeast Conference win over Coppin State University on Thursday at Dick Rockwell Field.

Thursday's contest was Le Moyne's home opener, and the first game of a three-game series against the CSU Eagles in Syracuse.

Le Moyne's 17 runs and 19 hits on Thursday are the most hits and runs recorded in a single game by the Dolphins since the 2022 season.

The Dolphins scored four runs in the opening inning, held a 6-0 lead after five innings, then added seven more runs in the sixth to take a commanding lead.

After limiting the Eagles to four hits, one walk and zero runs with a career-high eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work, Le Moyne redshirt-junior right-hander Jordan Goldmann collected his third NEC win in his third conference start of the year.

Freshman right-hander Max Danaher (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) then grabbed his first collegiate save after conceding just one hit, one run and one walk with three strikeouts in the final three innings.

"Jordan (Goldmann) was outstanding shutting them down for six innings, and Max (Danaher) did a great job finishing up the game," said Le Moyne head coach Scott Cassidy '98. "The guys just hit today. Put the pressure on almost every inning. It was a great way to start the series."

Senior catcher Benji Ries (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) went 4-4 at the plate to tie his career high in hits and recorded a career-high four runs scored to go along with two RBI.

Sophomore infielder Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) tallied a game-high five runs batted in with a three-RBI double in the first, an RBI single in the third, and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Keneston also recorded a career-high two stolen bases.

Senior outfielder Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) contributed a season-high three runs batted in with the help of his second home run of the season, a solo shot to lead off Le Moyne's seven-run inning.

Senior shortstop Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), graduate first baseman Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and freshman second baseman Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) each provided two hits and two runs scored, while senior outfielder Jason Boule (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) added a hit, a run and two RBI.

Freshman outfielder Chaz Anthony (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) registered his first collegiate hit, and his first career run scored, and senior catcher/DH Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) scored two runs in a game for the fourth time this season.

Sophomore right fielder Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) also produced two runs with a hit, a walk and an RBI.

Coppin State junior infielder Kai Holm drove in senior right fielder Brody Black with a single to left field in the top of the seventh to record the Eagles' lone run.

Le Moyne held the Eagles to five hits on Thursday, which is the fewest hits allowed by the Dolphins during a nine-inning game so far this season. Le Moyne also conceded just five hits during a seven-inning contest against Houston Christian on February 18.

Goldmann and Danaher's combined 11 strikeouts is tied for the second most K's recorded by the Dolphins in a single game.

They also limited an opponent to just one run for the second time this season.

The Dolphins tied their season highs of 15 RBI and five doubles during the conference win over CSU.

After Goldmann worked around a leadoff single in the top of the first, Le Moyne scored four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Roden ripped a one-out double, then with two outs in the inning, Ries hit a single through the left side of the infield that allowed Roden to score the first run of the contest. Sullivan followed that up with a single through the right side, then Fureno drew a walk to load the bases. During the next at bat, Keneston smashed a double to left field that scored all three runners to make it 4-0 in favor of the Dolphins.

Le Moyne added a run in the bottom of the third, and another in the fourth, then Coppin State loaded the bases with zero outs in the top of the fifth. Goldmann responded by recording back-to-back swinging strikeouts, then got a ground ball to first base for the final out of the inning to strand all three runners on base and maintain the shutout.

Le Moyne then opened up a double-digit lead with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. During the big inning, Brush launched a home run, Nevins smashed an RBI triple, Sullivan and Keneston both recorded sacrifice flies, Boule delivered an RBI single and Brush drove in two more runs with a single up the middle during his second at bat of the inning.
