MEN’S TENNIS RECORDS 11TH STRAIGHT WIN OVER DAEMEN, 6-1

Orchard Park, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team defeated Daemen University for the 11th straight time, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the South Towns Racquet Club.
 
The Dolphins swept the doubles competition for the fourth time this season. Graduate student Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb) and junior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) started the scoring off with a sweep of Rohan Chitanand and Lasse Mergens at the second position, 6-0. Graduate students Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) and Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at the top spot over Alex Lumanog and Juan Alvarez for their fifth straight win and team-best 19th of the year, the second-most by a duo in a season in the program's history. Graduate students Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense) completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over Lucas Garcia and Jayven Williamson at the third position.

Le Moyne was victorious at the first five positions of the singles competition. At the top spot, Grundstroem recorded back-to-back scores of 6-3 to defeat Lumanog. Nunez followed with his team-best 11th dual-match victory, 6-1, 6-4, over Alvarez at the second position. Piekarek was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at the third spot over Garcia for his 51st career victory, the second-most in the program's history. Stojanovic downed Chitanand at the fourth position, 6-1, 6-2, while Beires posted the same scores in reverse, 6-2, 6-1, to beat Mergens at the fifth spot. Zachary Laplante earned Daemen's point with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at the sixth position over freshman Yegor Boyev (London, England/Ashcroft Technology Academy).

Le Moyne (9-9) is back in action on Thursday at Youngstown State University at 5:00 p.m.
