SOFTBALL SPLITS FIRST DAY OF HOME CONFERENCE SERIES AGAINST FDU

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team (10-23, 3-8 NEC) hosted FDU (14-17, 3-7 NEC) for a conference series at the Le Moyne College Softball Complex. The Dolphins split for their doubleheader on Wednesday losing the first game 6-1 and won the second game 8-6.
 
First Game:
The Knights brought home a run starting off with Olivia Christopoul drawing a walk at the top of the first. Ayden Stone then doubled to center which Christopoul scored off of (1-0). The second inning was left without runs, but in the top of the third Sydney Newton singled to left landing herself on first base. Stone then singled to right center while Newton advanced to second. Erika Barela added a hit by singling to left field which Newton scored off of and Stone advanced to second on (2-0). With two outs on the board, Angela Costa drew a walk and loaded the bases with Stone and Barela. Megan Berg then doubled to left bringing home Barela and Stone while Costa advanced to third (4-0). Isabella Herring singled up the middle bringing home both Berg and Costa giving the Knights a six-run lead over the Dolphins.
 
At the bottom of the third, sophomore left fielder Alayna Bush (Adams, N.Y. / South Jefferson) singled off a bunt landing her on first base. Bush then advanced to second on a throwing error by the catcher and advanced to third on a passed ball then scored giving the Dolphins their one and only run for the first game.
 
The Knights would take the first game 6-1.
 
Second Game:
The Knights started off the second game with a single to left field by Stone which she then advanced to second off a wild pitch. Three walks followed for Barela, Celeste Queszada, and Andreya Flores which Stone scored off of (1-0).
 
At the bottom of the first, junior right fielder Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Charles W. Baker) drew a walk to lead-off. She then advanced to second off a wild pitch and replicated that moments later advancing to third off another wild pitch. Sophomore designated player Audrey Benderski (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) singled off a bunt landing herself on first. Sophomore outfielder Emilee Gallagher (New Windsor, N.Y. / Newburgh Free Academy) entered the game to pinch run for Benderski at first. Gallagher then got caught stealing second, but Dybacz would end up scoring a run for the Dolphins (1-1).
 
FDU responded in the top of the third with a single from Stone to shortstop. Barela followed by drawing a walk and brought Stone to second. Stone advanced to third and Barela advanced to second off an out by Quezada. Flores then singled to left which Stone scored on and Barela advanced to third (2-1). Riley Cunnningham entered the game to pinch for Flores at first and stole second during Costa's at-bat. Costa then singled to left and advanced to second on the throw while Cunningham advanced to third and scored off an obstruction while Barela had scored right before her (4-1).
 
The Dolphins fought back with freshman left-fielder Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) reaching first off an error by the second baseman. Freshman second baseman Gabriella Zarcone (Smithtown,, N.Y. / Smithtown East) capitalized on a triple to right field helping Nesci round the base and bringing in a run (2-4). Dybacz hit a sacrifice fly out to center while Zarcone added another run (3-4).
 
In the top of the fourth, Stone singled again to center. Barela drew another walk while Stone then advanced to second. Stone and Barela would both advance a base off a passed ball. Quezada then singled advancing to second on a throwing error by the rightfielder while Barela advanced to third and Stone scored (5-3). Costa hit a sacrifice fly out to left field and Barela would bring in another run giving them a 6-3 lead.
 
Graduate first baseman Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) started out the bottom of the fourth with a single to right center. She would then advance to third off an out by one of her teammates. Sophomore infielder Avery Linn (Bethpage, N.Y. / Plainedge) entered the game to pinch run for Bergdoll at second. Starting pitcher of the second game, freshman Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y. / Monore-Woodbury) singled to left field as Linn brought in the fourth run for the Dolphins. Nesci followed hitting a single advancing to second on a fielding error by the right fielder and advanced to third on the error. Exarchakis would then score on the error (5-6).
 
In the bottom of the fifth the Dolphins would score three more runs. Benderski started off with a single to second base. Redshirt junior Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse/ Onondaga C.C.) landed herself on first by being hit by a pitch which would move Benderski to second. Freshman third baseman Molly Wolf (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) entered the game to pinch run for Larobardiere at first. Bergdoll then solidified the lead for the Dolphins hitting a homerun to centerfield which would end up giving Le Moyne the lead they needed to take game two 8-6 over FDU.
 
The Dolphin's next game will tomorrow, Thursday April 11th for their last game of their home conference series 12 pm against FDU at the Le Moyne College Softball Complex.
