MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO BINGHAMTON IN NEC SEMIFINALS, 4-1

West Windsor, N.J. – Top-seeded Binghamton University recorded four singles victories en route to a 4-1 win over the fifth-seeded Le Moyne College men's tennis team in the semifinals of the Northeast Conference Championship on Saturday evening at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

Le Moyne earned its point in the doubles competition. Junior Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) and graduate student Luka Stojanovic (Paracin, Serbia/Kosta Cukic/University of Incarnate Word/Lipscomb) registered a 6-3 victory at the second position over Ronin Lotlikar and Kyle Weekes. Graduate students Alvaro Nunez (Jerez De La Frontera, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma/Southwest Baptist) and Leon Grundstroem (Hoganas, Sweden/Filborna Gymnasium/Northwood) clinched the point with a 6-4 win over William Binnie and James McPherson at the top spot. Andrew Fang and Filipe Costa were leading graduate students Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) and Rodrigo Beires (Porto, Portugal/Agrupamento de Escolas Garcia de Orta/Universidade Portucalense), 5-2, at the third position when the point was clinched.

Binghamton (15-9), which defeated the Dolphins for the third time this season, won the first four singles matches to finish to secure its place in the championship match on Sunday. Lotlikar evened the match at one point apiece with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nunez at the third position. Costa followed with back-to-back 6-3 wins at the second spot over Grundstroem for the lead. McPherson was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Beires at the sixth position. Weekes clinched the match for the Bearcats with consecutive scores of 6-4 at the fifth spot over Stojanovic. Hatton (6-3) and Binnie (6-1) each won a set in the match at the top spot, while Piekarek was leading Zubin Omar at the fourth position, 7-6 (7-5), 2-2, when the match was clinched.
 
Le Moyne finishes its first season at the Division I level with an 11-10 record.
