FDU REGISTERS 4-0 VICTORY OVER WOMEN’S TENNIS IN NEC QUARTERFINALS

West Windsor, N.J. – Fourth-seeded FDU recorded a 4-0 win over the fifth-seeded Le Moyne College women's tennis team on Friday evening in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference Championship at the Mercer Country Tennis Center.
 
The Knights took a 1-0 lead by winning the point in the doubles competition. Alena Kubanova and Namie Isago recorded a 6-2 win at the first position over freshman Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) and sophomore Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences). Mirela Turro and Valentina Silva clinched the point with a 6-2 win over freshman Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and junior Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) at the second spot. Anastasia Lim and Gauri Bhagia had a 4-3 lead over graduate student Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) and senior Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) when the point was secured.

FDU was victorious in the first three singles matches to finish to earn the win. Turro recorded back-to-back scores of 6-3 over Fernando at the third position. Isago registered a 6-2, 6-3 win at the fourth spot over sophomore Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset). Silva tallied a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Barona at the fifth position. Kubanova was leading Raiss at the top spot, 6-3, 4-3, when the match was clinched. Sophomore Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) was leading Lim at the second position, 6-3, 2-5, while Katsiaryna Kostsina had a 6-2, 5-5 lead over Simeonova at the sixth spot.

Le Moyne closes out its first season at the Division I level with a 6-9 record.
