LAFAYETTE RECORDS 14-9 WIN IN MEN’S LACROSSE’S ROAD FINALE

Easton, Pa. – Liam Sargent recorded five points to lead Lafayette College to a 14-9 win over the Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team on Friday night at Fisher Stadium.

The Leopards jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 104 seconds into the game. Riley Sullivan started the scoring only 40 seconds into the contest. Just over one minute later, Charlie Cunniffe tallied his first goal of the game.

Following over nine minutes of scoreless action, the Dolphins cut their deficit in half as graduate student midfielder Jack Grooms (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Hobart) scored his eighth goal of the season at the 4:09 mark after taking a pass from senior attackman Joey Pezzimenti (Victor, N.Y./Victor/UAlbany) in an extra-man situation.

Lafayette regained its two-goal lead with 1:40 left as John Mathes scored his first goal of the game.

The teams split the four goals scored in the second quarter. After over seven minutes of action without a goal to start the period, Peter Lehman scored at the 7:46 mark off a pass from Louis Baloh to put the Leopards up 4-1. Junior attackman Ryan Eisenmann (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) answered with a pair of goals 29 seconds apart. He scored with 6:29 left off a pass from Grooms and then scored unassisted at the 6:00 mark. Sargent put Lafayette back up by two with 5:08 left in the half.

The Leopards broke the game open with four goals in the first 4:02 of the third quarter. Lehman started the run 42 seconds into the period. Connor Freeman followed 32 seconds later to make it 7-3. Following an empty possession by each team, Mathes scored at the 11:41 mark off a dish from Lehman. Cunniffe capped the burst 43 seconds later after taking a pass from Sargent.

Le Moyne scored the next two goals to cut the margin to four. Grooms got the Dolphins on the scoreboard in the quarter with 9:10 left by swatting in a loose ball. Following a Lafayette turnover just over three minutes later, graduate student long-stick midfielder Nick Noel (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) collected the ball and raced up field to net his first goal of the season with 5:49 left.

Lafayette countered with the final three goals of the quarter. Sargent made it 10-5 just 33 seconds after Noel scored. Mathes followed at the 4:02 mark with his third goal of the night. Sargent capped the scoring in the quarter with just one second left off a pass from Lehman off the restart of an errant shot.

The Leopards took their largest lead of the game with the first goal of the fourth quarter as Sargent scored for X time.

Le Moyne responded with the next three goals. Following two penalties on the Leopards, junior midfielder Isaac Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded his ninth goal of the season with 8:38 left after collecting a pass from redshirt junior attackman Ethan Loun (West Linn, Ore./West Linn). Grooms followed at the 5:15 mark with his third goal of the evening. Just over one minute later, redshirt freshman Thomas Berry (Tully, N.Y./Tully) made it 13-8 off a feed from Eisenmann.

After a crease violation on the Dolphins, Cunniffe took advantage of Le Moyne on a 10-man ride by scoring into the empty net from 55 yards off a pass from Aidan Kopen with 3:26 left.

Le Moyne completed the game's scoring with 1:46 left as senior midfielder Kyle Caves (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored from the left edge of the crease off a pass from Frechette.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Carter Ruhm (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal/Bridgton Academy/Robert Morris) tallied 10 saves (against 13 goals) over 51:07 between the pipes. Joe Doherty made seven saves in the win for the Leopards.

Le Moyne (2-8) closes out its first season at the Division I level on Thursday by hosting The College of the Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. Prior to the opening faceoff, the Dolphin Athletic Association will honor the 14 members of the senior and graduate student class.
