WOMEN’S LACROSSE CLOSES OUT NEC PLAY WITH 17-2 VICTORY AT HOWARD

Washington, D.C. – Junior attacker Grace Detor (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) scored a career-high five goals to lead the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 17-2 victory over Howard University on Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium.

"Today was a great end to conference play!" said head coach Liz Beville. "We have continued to get better throughout the last month on both ends of the field. Our team is excited to get one last tune up vs. Albany before we head into conference playoffs."

With the victory and Stonehill's win over Saint Francis, the Dolphins clinch at least the third seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament. The Dolphins can claim the second seed and a first round bye if Sacred Heart (8-1) loses to Central Connecticut State (2-7) at home on Wednesday. The complete six-team bracket will be announced by the conference office following the completion of the regular season on Wednesday.

The Dolphins opened the scoring with two goals in the first 3:21 of the game. Sophomore midfielder Sara Hunter (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) got the scoring started with her seventh goal of the season at the 13:51 mark off a feed from senior attacker Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill). Freshman midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) followed just over two minutes later with her second goal of the year.

Howard got on the scoreboard at the 5:57 mark as Chloe Ronsholdt posted her fifth goal of the season.

Detor completed the scoring in the quarter with 39 seconds left off a dish from Barney.

As they did in the first quarter, the Dolphins scored the first two goals of the second quarter. Hunter made it 4-1 at the 13:33 mark by finishing off a feed from freshman attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). Just 34 seconds later, Noel tallied her third goal of the season after receiving a pass from Barney.

Following a green card on the Dolphins, Howard got a goal from Chase Coleman to pull within 5-2 with 11:04 left.

Le Moyne scored the final four goals of the second quarter. Noel ignited the run at the 9:45 mark after receiving a pass from senior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus). The duo reversed roles 20 seconds later after Howard was issued a green card. Detor netted her second goal of the day with 6:26 left after collecting a pass from Hunter. Detor ended the scoring in the half by converting a free-position shot with 1:21 to go.

The Dolphins scored all four of the third quarter's goals. As she did in the first two quarters, Hunter scored the first goal of the third quarter, this time off a free-position shot with 12:59 left. Just 36 seconds later, Hutchings netted her 28th goal of the season. Detor pushed the lead to double digits with her 22nd goal of the campaign with 5:59 to go. She scored again off a free-position shot with 2:41 remaining.

Le Moyne finished off the game's scoring with all four of the fourth quarter's goals. Hunter finished off scoring the first goal of each quarter by finding the back of the net just 39 seconds into the period off a pass from junior midfielder Haley Emmick (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), who then scored her first goal of the season at the 12:18 mark off a feed from Noel. Sophomore attacker Alexa Strelick (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) tallied a free-position goal with 10:20 left for her second goal of the season. She scored again three minutes later off a pass from senior attacker Jade Dillenbeck (Tully, N.Y./Tully) in an extra-player situation to close out the scoring in the game.

Fifth year goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) made seven saves over 38:39 between the pipes to earn her ninth victory of the season. Logan Ford also posted seven saves for the Bison in the loss.

Le Moyne (9-7, 8-2 NEC) closes out its regular season schedule on Tuesday at UAlbany at 4:00 p.m.
