UALBANY PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF FOR 13-7 WIN OVER WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Albany, N.Y. – Ava Poupard and Megan Dineen each scored twice as UAlbany used a 7-0 run to pull away for a 13-7 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon at John Fallon Field.

Dineen started the game's scoring just 54 seconds into the contest with her eighth tally of the season.

Le Moyne answered back with two goals to take its first lead of the game. Senior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) evened the score just 46 seconds later with her 29th tally of the campaign. Following four empty possessions by each team and a yellow card on the Great Danes, sophomore midfielder Jane Austenfeld (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) netted her fifth goal of the year with 5:38 left after taking a pass from freshman midfielder Maddi Barney (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) in the extra-player situation.

UAlbany knotted the score with 1:38 left as Mikaela Mooney scored her seventh goal of the season.

The Great Danes opened the second quarter with the first two goals. Allie Maloney put them in front with her ninth goal of the year at the 11:31 mark after taking a pass from Bryar Hogg. Just over one minute later, Emma Weaver posted her fifth goal of the season after collecting a pass from Mooney.

Le Moyne scored the final three goals of the half to take a 5-4 lead into the intermission. After another yellow card on the Great Danes, Hutchings tallied her 30th goal of the campaign with 8:10 left off a dish from freshman attacker Emily Noel (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). Senior midfielder Rhonee Shea Pal (Canastota, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) followed 49 seconds later by converting a free-position shot for her 24th goal of the year. After two empty possessions by each team, senior attacker Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) recorded her 17th goal of the season with 2:15 left off a feed from Pal.

The Great Danes got the scoring started in the second half with the first two goals. They evened score at the 11:36 mark as Weaver scored off a feed from Hogg. Maloney followed three minutes later with a free-position tally for her 10th marker of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Sara Hunter (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) evened the score for the final time with 6:49 remaining with her 11th goal of the campaign after receiving a pass from classmate Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).

UAlbany responded with the final two goals of the period. Poupard put her team in front for good by finishing off a pass from Hogg in a player-down situation with 5:48 remaining. Hogg then converted a free-position shot with 3:51 left for her 16th goal of the season.

The Great Danes scored the first five goals of the fourth quarter to put the game away. Poupard started the run by finishing off a pass from Weaver in an extra-player situation just 42 seconds into the quarter. Dineen netted her ninth goal of the season just over two minutes later. She scored again only 13 seconds later to force a Le Moyne timeout. Following almost four and one-minutes of scoreless action, Maloney netted an extra-player goal. Weaver finished off UAlbany's scoring with 4:43 left by converting a free-position shot for her seventh tally of the season.

Pal completed the scoring in the contest with her 25th goal of the campaign with 2:58 to play.

Fifth year goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered 13 saves in the loss for the Dolphins. Grace Cincebox made four saves for the Great Danes.

Le Moyne (9-8) is next in action in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Dolphins are currently in third place in the NEC standings with one play date remaining (Wednesday), during which the Dolphins have a bye. The Dolphins can finish as the second seed if Sacred Heart loses to Central Connecticut State and LIU defeats FDU, otherwise, the Dolphins will be the third seed. If the Dolphins are the second seed, they will earn a bye into the NEC semifinals, which would be held at LIU on May 2. If the Dolphins are the third seed, they will host the sixth seed on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The sixth seed with be either Wagner (with a win over Delaware State or a Merrimack loss to Stonehill) or Merrimack (with a win over Stonehill and a Wagner loss to Delaware State). If the Dolphins are the third seed, the semifinals (May 2) and finals (May 4) will be held by Sacred Heart.
