Albany, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College baseball team earned its second consecutive midweek non-conference win on Tuesday with a 4-1 victory at UAlbany.
Graduate right-handed starting pitcher
Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona Sherrill) improved his record to 3-2 this season after limiting the Great Danes to four hits and one run in five innings of work, then redshirt-junior right-hander
Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) registered his second save of the campaign after conceding zero hits, zero runs and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings in relief.
Fifth-year shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), sophomore left fielder
Tyler Campbell (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.), senior first baseman
Brady Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain), and freshman designated hitter
Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) each produced one RBI, while fifth-year center fielder
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) and junior right fielder
Wyatt Patchett (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) both recorded a hit and two runs scored.
Cannon and fellow rookie
Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) contributed a team-high two hits each.
"Dewey gave us a great start and Billy was outstanding out of the pen," said Le Moyne head coach
Scott Cassidy '98. "With the early lead and a few clutch hits from Nick and Jack, we were able to secure a good midweek victory. We gotta build on this win going into a huge weekend of conference play."
The Dolphins struck first with two runs in the opening inning. Brush led off with a walk, Whelehan ripped a single through the left side, then Patchett drew a walk with one out to load the bases. A fielder's choice from Campbell allowed Brush to cross the plate, then a hard ground ball from Fureno to the left side of the infield brought home Patchett.
Roden held the Great Danes scoreless until the bottom of the third, when Albany junior first baseman Ryan Feremi drove in freshman left fielder Anthony Scarabino with a base hit through the left side.
Roden worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth, then Brush led off the fifth inning with a double to right field. With one out in the inning, Nevins roped a single to left-center to drive in Brush and once again make it a two-run game.
Roden completed his outing by stranding two runners on base during a scoreless bottom of the fifth.
Le Moyne added an insurance run in the top of the eighth as Patchett was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, then crossed the plate following a single through the right side by Cannon.
Hoffacker recorded two strikeouts during a 1-2-3 frame in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.
