Game Recap: Softball | | Gabriella Bordonaro '22, Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

SACRED HEART SWEEPS SOFTBALL; 2-0 & 4-1 ON SATURDAY

Fairfield, Conn. – The Le Moyne College softball team (14-33, 5-12 NEC) traveled to compete against Sacred Heart University (25-25, 16-7 NEC) to start off a conference series on Saturday. The Pioneers swept the Dolphins 2-0, and 4-1.
 
First Game:
For the first game of the day, the Pioneers had a shutout win against the Dolphins scoring four runs. Sacred Heart put one run on the board in the first inning with Victoria Lopinto scoring off a single hit to left field by Carly Koltko (1-0). Sacred Heart then scored again in the bottom of the fourth with Nicole Henke singling to center field and Emily Carroll crossing homeplate which would be the last run of the game (2-0) as the Pioneers took game one.
 
Three Dolphins recorded base hits for game one including junior right fielder Alyssa Dybacz (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Charles W. Baker) who hit a leadoff single to left field in the first and went 1-3 this game. Freshman left-fielder Sydney Nesci (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) hit a single to left field in the top of the fourth and went 1-3 for the first game. Lastly, graduate student catcher Brandi Feeney (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Saint Peter's) hit a single to left center at the top of the second, and went 1-3 for game one.
 
Graduate pitcher Laura Bennet (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) faced nine batters and recorded five strikeouts this game bringing her career strikeout total to 584.
 
Second Game:
In the second game of the day, the Dolphins only run came out of the top of the first inning. Dybacz started by drawing a walk and landing herself on first. Junior second baseman Dominique Rinaldi (Sayville, NY/Sayville) hit a sacrifice bunt as Dybacz advanced to second. Redshirt junior third baseman Frankie Larobardiere (North Syracuse, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse/ Onondaga C.C.) then singled through the right side bringing home Dybacz (1-0).
 
In the bottom of the third, the Pioneers added a run to the board with Koltko hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home Lopinto (1-1). Lopinto would then hit a homerun in the bottom of the fourth bringing home Jenna Mowad and Morgan Toedosio to solidify the lead and carryout the win to the end of the day (4-1).
 
Two Dolphins recorded hits this game with Rinaldi registering a single to shortstop and a single up the middle going 3-2. Larobardiere recorded her base hit singling up the middle and went 3-1.
 
Freshman pitcher Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y. / Monore-Woodbury) recorded four strikeouts against the Pioneers for the second game of the day, bringing her career strikeout total to 56.
 
The Dolphin's will be back at Sacred Heart tomorrow Sunday, April 27th for their last game of the series at 12pm – New Pioneer Park – Fairfield, Conn.
