BASEBALL CONCLUDES ROAD STRETCH WITH 4-3 LOSS AT CANISIUS

Buffalo, N.Y. – The Canisius University Griffins claimed a 4-3 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Tuesday in non-conference action at Canisius' Demske Sports Complex.

The Griffs used eight different pitchers during the contest, which was the 109th meeting between the two programs, while Le Moyne graduate right-hander Dewey Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherill), who has been the winning pitcher in midweek victories over St. Bonaventure, Niagara and UAlbany so far this season, tossed a season-high six innings with five strikeouts and four runs allowed, and redshirt-junior right-hander Billy Hoffacker (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek/Rowan College of South Jersey) limited the Griffs to two hits, one walk and zero runs with two strikeouts in two innings in relief.

Outfielders Carlin Dick and Jackson Strong both launched solo home runs for Canisius on Tuesday. Dick recorded a team-high two hits during the win, while Strong scored a game-high two runs.

Le Moyne sophomore third baseman Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a double and a two-run home run, which was his first long ball of the season.

Sophomore first baseman Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) registered a base hit and a run scored, while freshman catcher Cooper Romich (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) added his second RBI of the campaign.

Canisius, which is tied for fourth in the MAAC Standings with a 7-8 conference record, struck first on Tuesday as infielders Trent Rumley and Michael Kelly delivered back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the first inning.

Sullivan's two-run home run in the top of the second tied the game, then the Griffs went back ahead with Strong's solo shot in the bottom of the third.

Keneston led off the fifth inning with an infield single, then Sullivan ripped a double to left field to put runners on second and third with zero outs. With one out in the inning, Romich hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield which allowed Keneston to score and tie the game at 3-3.

Canisius once again got a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the fifth as Dick drove a pitch over the right field wall. The Griffs' bullpen would keep Le Moyne scoreless for the final four innings to hang on for the non-conference win.

Le Moyne, which had won five consecutive games against Canisius prior to Tuesday's contest, now holds a 79-30 record all-time against the Griffs. Tuesday's contest in Buffalo marked the end of an eight-game road stretch for the Dolphins.

Le Moyne will return home for a Northeast Conference series against University of Maryland Eastern Shore beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
